SMP Problems?

Hi guys, I've been playing System Shock 2 in wine for the past couple of weeks, ever since Lionel Ulmer's surface locking patch that got it working - the other day I installed a second cpu in this box, and wine is freezing up playing ss2, if I disable SMP in the kernel, all is fine - it's not a hard lockup, I can simply killall wine.bin and wine exits with a successful status. I've noticed now that playing with SMP disabled, there are small pauses every so often, which seem to be the wine freezes instead of just pauses when SMP is enabled. Testing a mouse problem in Theme Hospital

Hello, I am tracing a mouse problem in the game Theme Hospital. It is a old game, so it is not using dinput. The game works "correct" until that you arrive to the first screen what you must move the mouse. The X cursor is visible in pos 0,0, and the game cursor in middle of the screen. If you move to right or down, the game cursor moves correctly, but if you move to left or up the game cursor doesn't move. The X cursor is continually returning to pos 0,0. I have been tracing X11DRV_MotionNotify, and if i move only up/left from the start of the game, it has always coordinates values 0, so the game can't know what the mouse is moving up/left. Some idea, fixing it? loading and running windows dlls in a linux program

Hi, I want to write a program that uses audio plugins. I also want to add support for a couple of plugins I use that are compiled as windows dlls. I know the interface the plugins expect, so there will be no real problem in this regard. But I will have to know about how to load a windows dll under linux and the potential obstacles involved in this. I know that some other free programs are already loading windows dlls: mplayer loads foreign windows video/audio codec dlls and the cvs version of soundtracker more or less loads so-called "buzzmachines". Both of them use wine code to achive this. I basically will have to do the same as soundtracker. The soundtracker code uses wine code but it is pretty outdated (may 2001). The actual code loading the buzzmachines is closed source because the author of the original windows program using buzzmachines does not want that code snippet to be free - so I cannot read it in plain C. But I can see what functions are being called in the object code (thanks nm). Three of which come from wine: LoadLibraryA GetProcAddress FreeLibrary Are these all I need? In theory, this looks about enough to be able to load a shared object... but I will need a lot of other wine internals too, in case a dll does a system call (like malloc, which will definitely happen), won't I? What happens if I pass a pointer to a method contained in a windows dll?? Will wine take care about low level stuff like keeping track of memory layouts of structs and convert them if they are incorrect? More precisely: If I reimplement data structures external to the dll but used by it, will the difference in memory layout between the original struct the dll expects and my new implementation under linux matter? DirectShow is similar in style and architecture to GStreamer right? They both use graphs of connected elements. Would it be possible to use GStreamer to implement Quartz? Pros: * Saves potentially a lot of work, depending on how big DirectShow is. * GStreamer is written in C, under the LGPL (though licenses of codecs vary) * Get lots of codecs for free. Cons: * Are they too different? Would it be like trying to map comctrl onto Tk? * Adds an extra dependancy on GStreamer. Still, all distros with gnome2.2 (ie all of them) ship with it on the CDs. * I don't know what I'm talking about, so I could be being dumb. How to use CVS Wine?

I just installed Wine from CVS using one of those GetWine scripts. This is copy protection. Wine does not support this form of copy protection yet, so you need to find a nocd patch. Here are some instructions I passed to someone else which worked: You need: 1. The very latest cvs tree 2. Disable sound for now ("Drivers" = "" in [winmm] in ~/.wine/config) 3. Use windows msvcrt, or apply patch from http://www.integrita.com/cgi-local/lwgate.pl/WINE-PATCHES/archives/2003-05/… 4. Install as usual 5. Apply 1.05 patch then noCD patch 6.
