This is mostly for my benefit, but my reading of the weather forecast says that it's going to be 'sunny intervals' and temp from 12 C at night to 22 C during the day. (In *real* English, that would seem to be 'Partly Cloudy, with temps from the 40s at night into the upper 60s/low 70s during the day' <evil American grin>). And isn't the stereotype that we should expect it to rain all the time? Cheers, Jeremy

Food on Saturday Night

Hi all, We've organised a little get-together in a pub/restaurant called Great Expectation on Saturday night. However, they aren't the biggest of places and they are worried that if everyone orders the same thing then they might run out, leaving some people disappointed. So they've asked me to ask you all what you'd like to eat on Saturday night. Don't worry, this isn't final, it's just to get a rough idea of numbers. Agenda planning

My thinking for our agenda is this: Convene 9:00 Saturday (many of us will be having breakfast in Windsor hall before then). Spend 9:00 to 9:30 doing introductions, getting name tags, and futzing with internet(*). 9:30 Alexandre's Keynote 10:30 retire to the pub... <grin> Okay, seriously, I think that after the keynote, my plan was to list the known topics, and then have folks that are there on Saturday only mark the talk they don't want to miss. Then we'll have that lot go first. I was also hoping that folks could propose ad-hoc topics, particularly as conversations. I also think we should plan on long breaks between, and perhaps designated working/brainstorming times. If you're planning on coming for Sunday only, and there is a topic you are desparate to hear, you should email me and Rob now to let us know. Local Bus Number Correction

Hi all, This is just to note that the bus I originally suggested (the number 12) doesn't get you as close to Windsor Hall and the lecture theatre as you might like. The number 18 and 19 buses are better. You can get these from stop "SJ" at Reading station, leaving every half an hour on 10 past and 40 past the hour. For Windsor Hall, you can get off at the St Joseph's Convent stop. Information on what to do and where to go

Hi all, This is hopefully the definitive guide on what to do and where to go when you get to Reading. Here's the deal: most folks taking either a bus or a train will arrive in Reading at Reading Station. >From there, it's a ways to the University (about 45 minutes and might not be easy to find). A taxi will run you about £8, and there is a public bus as well - all nicely laid out on the travel page: http://www.winehq.org/site/wineconf/travel Our plan is to pause in the pub that's connected to Reading Station, the Three Guineas, for a pint of Real Ale, and in the hopes of getting together and arranging transport to the university. So if you land there, you might look around for other Wine folks before moving on. (CodeWeavers folks are mostly coming in on Friday, starting at around 11:00 and proceeding through the day.) Walking out of the main station entrance (the area with tickets desks and fast food restaurants), the Three Guineas is on the right, on the other side of the bicycle stands. Now, if you have booked a room with me for Windsor Hall, here are the instructions from the University: Arrivals at Windsor Hall should check in at the main reception (signed Park reception). Arrivals after 11pm will need to use the yellow phone at the entrance if the Hall to contact Security. We do need to know in advance if anyone will be arriving after 11pm so that their keys can be made available to Security. Your contact this weekend will be Clare Lockett, who can be contacted during working hours on 0776 444 5861 during Saturday and Sunday. We're not really sure if there is a public lounge in Windsor Hall; if there is, I'm sure a few of us will be lounging there. The rooms all have internet, so I'm sure a bunch of us will be slumming there anyways. However, the further thought is to congregate at a pub or other congenial meeting place from mid-afternoon onwards. The Queen's Head is within walking distance of campus (http://local.google.co.uk/local?f=q&hl=en&sll=51.443108,-0.951068&sspn=0.00…) so it seems like the best place to do this. Assuming you are coming from Windsor Hall, here is how to get to the Queen's Head: 1. Turn left out of the University onto Upper Redlands Road. 2. Take the first left onto Elmhurst Road. 3. Keep following the road until you come to a set of traffic lights and turn right onto the road with a row of shops (Shinfield Road). 4. The Queen's Head is about 200m on the left. It is the building covered in ivy. I'll be around all day on Friday and if you need to get hold of me, you can do so on +44 7790 504077 (replacing the +44 with 0 if you are dialing from a UK phone). Volunteers needed?

Hi, I'll arrive at Stansted pretty early in the morning (7:25) on september 15, so I think it's pretty possible I'll be at Reading early in the afternoon ;-) Is there anything useful I could do to help put things together for Wineconf? Wineconf 06 Keysigning

Hi, at Wineconf 2005, we've had a quite successful GPG key signing party. Thus, I'd like to volunteer for organizing a GPG keysigning party at Wineconf 2006 as well. Quoting last year's party organizer (Shachar Shemesh), anyone who wishes to participate, please: 1. Have a PGP key. You can generate one for yourself using gpg. 2. Send the PGP (public) key and its finger print to me AT THE VERY LATEST ON TUESDAY 12. Any later then that, and it is not certain that we'll manage to get your key on the printed piece of paper that is necessary for carrying out the party. 3. Bring a copy you can trust to wineconf, to make sure other people are really signing your key (i.e. - that I'm not pulling anybody's leg). 4. Bring an identifying ID to wineconf. Two is preferable. Passport or a driver license in a language people can read. If you can only bring one, a passport is definitely preferable. The full details of what a key signing party is, why are the procedures as they are, and what's so important about *not* signing the keys with your laptop at the party can be found at http://www.cryptnet.net/fdp/crypto/gpg-party.html Note: No aliases on PGP keys. If your PGP key says "lord master of compiler optimization", then your passport had better say the same or no one will be able to sign your key. Also, if you DON'T want the key published to a key server, please let me know well in advance. Obviously, your key will be published to all the people present at the key party. If your name's not there on your email headers, include it in the body. The name must be the same as appears on your formal IDs. The purpose of a pgp signing party is to establish a link between your virtual identity (your key) and your real one (as verified by an ID).
