This fixed the problem with the illegible text and characters, but now there is a problem with the games "daylight" feature which is a shading layer. Communication is done over a serial port. If I run the program without any debugmsg flags, it fails immediately, complaining that it can't find the GPS. But it soon fails again before beginning the upload.
