It succeeds on Windows (I have Windows 2000), but fails on Wine. It occurrs when you're trying to install the game onto a partition formatted for NTFS. It installs fine under real win2k, but the target partition must be formatted in FAT32. I don't know which function call under wine is called to return the available disc size, but it seems to emulate the NTFS response... So maybe it's just checking for d3d9.dll. So this could be worth a quick shot: do "touch ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/d3d9.dll" and try again.
