Follow-up: Nah, turning vertex shaders off didn't help the game. In fact: it just got uglier. However, I got the bug where it is "fullscreen" in a virtual desktop, but I'm not using virtual desktop. Oh well, I can at least kill it when it crashes now. Basically, it's gunna crash every once in a while, without warning, without remorse. Keep autosave on, and just sudo kill -9 it when it steps outta line. On to the next step: figure out how to accept EULA so I can play episode one. Rhinoceros NURBS 3D modelling software installs flawlessly, but does not start. A failure on read access at address null is reported. This is quite strange. Either Windows allow applications to access that address :-D, or something else is wrong.
