Ok, I'll remove winetools and try again. I only wanted to use it as a comparison, since it had the proper behavior when installed through that route. I'll try specifying more dll overrides as well. However, interestingly enough this did not appear for me until I upgraded my linux kernel from 2.4.27 to 2.6.8. At least, the symptoms didn't - for all I know the error messages were there always. At this point, sound is almost completely disabled in SL. When it works, it is choppy and prone to stuttering.
