For non professionnal midi apps such as games, the first device is selected by default by the app which does not provide the ability to select another one which is particularily annoying, as in your case, when it is an external midi port. To address this, built-in synthetisers are enumerated first and then external midi ports. So there shouldn't be any problem. Now 640x480 is not one of the modes listed in my xorg.conf If I add 640x480 to the list Subsection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "640x480" "1024x768" "800x600" ViewPort 0 0 EndSubsection thief still does not start: X's screen size is still set to largest value in that list, even though the window (what the monitor shows) is a 640x480 corner of this - which may be moved around by nudging edges with mouse pointer.
