I get similar behaviours than you with wine 1.2. I think that the focus of this bug should be changed; it is possible to start the game if you mess up with the .ini configuration file. So I install WINE for Ubuntu, and then the game itself. The installation went off without a hitch. Various bugs about the games: C&C1:Menu boxes appear, then text appears and boxes flicker. Every time a menu opens, and every time something is changed. Randomly locks up, unusable. Also, cursor flickers Red Alert: Same as above. Tiberian Sun: Cannot run, as it says "A Debugger has been detected"/"Unload the debugger and try again." Renegade: No known problems Red Alert 2: Cursor does appear until I click the Quit button. Sound completely cuts off after random time. Yuri's Revenge: Same as Tiberian Sun. Generals: Have not tried yet.
