InstallShield creat the correct temp file to expand the files to be installed, then return a (Program Error headline) "The program setup.exe has encoutera serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. This can be caused by a problem in the program or a deficinecy in Wine. You may want to check the Application datase for tips about running this application." Using Hans' patch and setting 'fusion=builtin' before running the .NET 4.0 installer gets .NET 4.0 assemblies installed into GAC. The installer actually succeeds which is an improvement over the current "workaround" recipe. There is a difference though. In previous versions, all .NET assemblies were installed into "C:\\windows\\assembly". With .NET 4.0 the assemblies are further split. The "private" GAC for 4.0 is located in "c:\\windows\\Microsoft.NET\\assembly". The concept of placing assemblies into a global directory began in CLR v1.1. Tools such as GACUtil and Shfusion will behave exactly the same as they did in pre–.NET Framework 4.0 scenarios.
