Similar to how the previous patch worked for 1.1.36. By cloning the current git repository, you can make a small change to the source code and then compiling Wine from scratch. At around line 312 in /dlls/d3d9/d3d9_private.h, change: From: #define D3D9_MAX_VERTEX_SHADER_CONSTANTF 256 To: #define D3D9_MAX_VERTEX_SHADER_CONSTANTF 1024 My system uses the Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 with proprietary drivers, so the results may differ to your configuration. As stated previously, this is not a fix. It gets past the INVALIDCALL error, and The Sims 2 completes it's initialization stage, dependent on hardware. Notable problems still include: Unrendered 'eagle' Sims, objects that are animating turning red, objects containing video (TV/Computer) remaining black, re-positioned objects temporarily turning red (presumably as it re-renders). Missing 'splash' lines on the loading screen. Resolutions higher than 1024x768 also results in Wine throwing many errors to a point the game crashes. On the upside, all of the default Sims portraits are rendered initially and there is no flickering (only once after loading the neighbourhood) Despite the rendering issues, it plays at pretty solid 60 FPS (you can press CTRL+SHIFT+S in-game to see this), so there's hope this game can run really well as soon as the shader implementation issues are ironed out. I also discovered some game-related files. I don't know if these may be of any use, but the retail game (not sure about the demo) uses some scripts related to determining graphics: /../TSData/Res/Config/Graphics Rules.sgr /../TSData/Res/Config/Video Cards.sgr -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. The game installs without problem, the graphic settings UI invokes but then the program just sits in memory chugging along at 2-3% cpu until it is halted in the system monitor. I have the original CD version of the game, V1.0. I have tried updating the game to v1.2, v1.4 and v1.41 and running each and I have the same problem. I have tried using different versions of the game namely stronghold 2 deluxe from the internet, albeit a modified copy from some dark corner of the planet but this too also seems to suspend in load starting. I have tried installing d3dx9, vcrun..... etc.. from 'none at all' to 'all at once' and find no joy here. This above was all aboard - Kubuntu 14.04 x64 with Wine versions 1.6 or 1.7.28 Presently I have much time and hard disk space so the following tedium was then intended to engage and amuze me, unfortunately with little success. I have installed Kubuntu 14.04 x86 and tried running the program from there, also the same outcome. I tried running the program from a drive formatted Fat32, no success ( there is a dll in the game folder called foldercheck.dll or similar?!) I am almost certain I remember playing this game through Wine very recently and APPdb would suggest no reason against this... so I am at a loss. Also I tried the older FGLRX drivers opposed to the FGLRX-updates. (ATI 6850) Also I tried standing upside down with a yoghurt balanced on my nose. It does not work. (QUAD-CORE AMD 4170 3.5GHZ CPU) (MOUSE AND KEYBOARD) (SAMSUNG 37inch 720p HDTV won't go above 30hz refresh, but that is a resolution option in the GUI) pppft -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. It updated some files fine in a properly working GUI and let me hit "Start" at which point the launcher disappaered and a few seconds later the program crashed. Terminal displayed.
