It seems the culprit is that Wine's msxml (re)generates an 'install.xml' file with line breaks not preserved/generated (linefeed/carriage return missing). The file gets rewritten during install time, being smaller in the end with fewer feature-sets (ok) and line breaks lost (not ok).
