This is effectively the only way to play vanilla BF2 online (since the shutdown of the Gamespy Servers). The developers plan to drop support for Windows XP & Vista at a future date (currently available via a different / legacy installer). The launcher is build on .Net 4.5 (unfortunately) and will not run on a Windows OS release prior to Windows 7. Currently using newest drivers possible on Linux Mint 17.2 NVIDIA graphics GeForce GT640M which runs game flawlessly on windows.
