[Bug 4836] Page Maker 6.5 / 7.0 page fault when printing graphics
by wine-bugs＠winehq.org April 3, 2016

April 3, 2016

https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4836 --- Comment #31 from Dmitry Timoshkov <dmitry(a)baikal.ru> --- (In reply to Rosanne DiMesio from comment #27) > Um, my PageMaker 6.5 cd has a folder call PSDriver, and the README in that > folder says "This folder contains the files needed to install the Adobe > PostScript driver version 4.1.1. This driver is the latest version available > as of November 1996." Adobe Postscript driver is a separate product and it's not a part of PageMaker. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. [Bug 4836] Page Maker 6.5 page fault when printing graphics

April 2, 2016

https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4836 --- Comment #29 from Rosanne DiMesio <dimesio(a)earthlink.net> --- (In reply to Bruno Jesus from comment #28) > Is it really possible to reproduce with version 7? > It was back in 2008. I only tested 6.5 this time. > > What are the steps to reproduce? How do you add an image to the background, > I only found a few tools in the toolbar and no menus talk about images. Use File=>Place to place an image. I used one of the .tifs from the Tutorial, but I don't remember if the demo has a Tutorial. Note that PageMaker doesn't support a lot of image formats that are common today. https://forums.adobe.com/message/5450935#5450935 -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4836 --- Comment #26 from Dmitry Timoshkov <dmitry(a)baikal.ru> --- For what it's worth, PageMaker 6.5 does crash as described in this bug report when there is an image on the page, but it doesn't crash when printing in Draft mode, and the logs are almost identical. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4836 --- Comment #25 from Dmitry Timoshkov <dmitry(a)baikal.ru> --- (In reply to Rosanne DiMesio from comment #24) > I'm not convinced it's a Wine insufficiency. Pagemaker in its day was > professional software, with features meant for commercial printing presses. > It includes postscript printer drivers from Adobe because the Windows > drivers (even the ones from printer manufacturers) were inadequate. Those > drivers can't be installed in Wine, but even if they could, there are no > Adobe drivers for Pagemaker for any printer created in this millenium. That > caused problems in Windows XP and later, too. Adobe's response was to tell > people to upgrade to InDesign. I've been working with PageMaker (and pre-press in general) many years starting from Aldus PageMaker 4.2, that was my day job. PageMaker never shipped Postscript drivers, and it worked perfectly well with not Postscript drivers, it just doesn't support color separation in that mode. InDesign is a very different application, with very different requirements and abilities. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4836 --- Comment #24 from Rosanne DiMesio <dimesio(a)earthlink.net> --- (In reply to Dmitry Timoshkov from comment #23) > > Please keep this bug open, just consider this as a report about another > Wine insufficiency leading to an application crash. > I'm not convinced it's a Wine insufficiency. Pagemaker in its day was professional software, with features meant for commercial printing presses. It includes postscript printer drivers from Adobe because the Windows drivers (even the ones from printer manufacturers) were inadequate. Those drivers can't be installed in Wine, but even if they could, there are no Adobe drivers for Pagemaker for any printer created in this millenium. That caused problems in Windows XP and later, too. Adobe's response was to tell people to upgrade to InDesign. > Following the logic about old applications probably half of Wine bug > reports could be closed as abandoned for wide range of applications > including old versions of Microsoft Office for example. Don't worry, I'm not going to run through bugzilla closing bugs just because the app is old. But it's up to people who really want a bug kept open to keep it updated. The backtrace I attached yesterday should be enough to keep this zombie shuffling along for at least a couple years; after that, someone else will need to take up the gauntlet. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. [Bug 27103] New: JigsawADay.com puzzle application: slow screen refreshing
by wine-bugs＠winehq.org April 2, 2016

April 2, 2016

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27103 Summary: JigsawADay.com puzzle application: slow screen refreshing Product: Wine Version: 1.3.19 Platform: x86 URL: http://www.jigsawaday.com/ OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: trivial Priority: P2 Component: msvfw32 AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: gyebro69(a)gmail.com Created an attachment (id=34543) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=34543) terminal output There is a noticeable lag when you pick up a puzzle piece and move it across the screen. If you switch to another window then switch back to the application, the refreshing of the app window is also much slower than on Windows (I've tried the app in WinXP running under Virtualbox). As a workaround, using native msvfw32.dll improves the situation a lot. It seems the preview window has the most impact on the issue: try to minimize it and you'll see that the lagging issue improved somewhat. The application can be downloaded from the URL linked above. It doesn't require installation and it has a size of only a few hundred kilobytes. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
