This bug at least affects ------------------------- Archlinux x64/Linux 3.12.6-1-ARCH/Wine 1.7.9/libcap 2.22 Ubuntu 13.10 x64/Linux 3.11.0-14-generic/Wine (PPA) 1.7.9/libcap 2.22 Steps to reproduce ------------------ # setcap 'cap_net_bind_service=+ep' /usr/bin/wine-preloader $ wine Hearthstone.exe -launch -uid hs_beta Get a message box that captions "Fatal error in gc" and says "GetThreadContext failed", click "OK" Another message box that captions "Wine program crash", and says "Internal errors - invalid parameters received", click "OK" The process turns to a zombie, kill it. Revert the capabilities, the program loads. # setcap '-r' /usr/bin/wine-preloader $ wine Hearthstone.exe -launch -uid hs_beta This issue persists over system reboots. It's not just setting CAP_NET_BIND_SERVICE causes the problem. From what I observed, this error occurs as long as any capablity is enabled. Note on getting debug trace --------------------------- Right now due to bug #33947, battle.net.exe requires dbghelp to be disabled, and Hearthstone.exe depends on it in order to play. However, directly running Hearthstone.exe is good enough to reproduce this bug. So I suggest anyone who wants to look into this problem to re-enable the debugger and run 'wine Hearthstone.exe -launch -uid hs_beta' to get a debug trace. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. Bug appears after logging into the "Blizzard App". ("Blizzard App" is currently only working in Wine-Staging - see https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=28855 for details) After logging into the "Blizzard App", suddenly a Wine error message pops up, telling me that "Battle.net Helper.exe" has crashed. I'm attaching the backtrace. Nevertheless I can use the "Blizzard App" to start StarCraft 2 and it runs well. Download, install, and open the Battle.net App. 2. Click the region button or the settings button. 3. Wave the mouse pointer over where the menu should appear for it to appear (bug 33943) On Windows, the menus are displayed with a border and a triangular protrusion that points to the associated button. On Wine, this border never appears. TRACE+win output is attached. Open it with Vim; for some reason `less` thinks it's a binary file. I don't know if this is the same as bug 33943. If the same fix solves both problems, then we can mark both bugs as fixed. When pressing the launch button, the games simply do nothing and sit there stating they're running or state they're running for a few seconds and the message is gone. I've tried running Warcraft 3: Reforged from the terminal and all I receive is a failed to initialize ClientSdk.dll. Haven't tried this for other games. When you play in windowed mode (or with dual-screen) it is really annoying (and causing eyestrain) when the gamma value is too high.
