I am running wine version wine-1.5.18 installed via YUM on Fedora 18, using the linux kernel 3.8.0-rc3 compiled from source from www.kernel.org. What Linux Live USB does, is it creates a Live USB Linux USB thumb drive from an ISO. I keep a Windows XP partition around to run this program. My hope is to use Wine to run this program and create Linux thumb drives. Live Linux USB should task Wine, as it looks for new updates and other information from its web site. When I start Kindle, Kindle says "Unable to connect. Please check your network setting and proxy configuration. Network settings can be found under Tools > Options > Network" I tested on wine-5.22 and wine-6.0-rc6 on Manajaro Linux but same result. I also tested wine-5.0 on Feren OS but the problem didn't occurred. So the problem is on wine 5.22 or later, or on Manjaro Linux. Apparently the only available version is from oldversion.com However, I also have a copy that comes with another app that installs fine. It *might* have something to do with the lzexpand DLLs. In order to make DirectDraw feature complete we need this ability. It is used in media players (in a lot of cases through quartz 'DirectShow') to improve rendering performance. A free application that attempts to use it in directx mode (the default option) is VLC. Further Picasa seems to need it too and their special Wine branch supports video overlay using Xv but in a hacky way. It is relatively easy to add a software implementation to DirectDraw/WineD3D but it would be slow. For best performance and less reinventing the wheel we need to implement overlay using Xv. The most tricky part would be on how to access Xv from within wined3d. Crappy hack is only to show where the problem is and problably contains several errors, hopefully someone can fix this in proper way (hint at Hans;)). Sidenote: reverting the hack makes Onenote from Office365 run into the bug again, but Onenote from office 2010 now continues happily to start; maybe it sets some registry key once started and the patch is not needed anymore?
