The easiest way to test this is using Ableton Live 9; Live 10 also has the same issue, but multicore audio processing is permanently turned on. - Open an empty Live Set. (By default, this has 4 empty tracks, a reverb effect, and a delay effect: a negligible amount of audio processing.) - In Ableton's preferences, under the CPU tab, disable multicore audio processing. Observe the built-in CPU meter in the upper-right corner; it should sit very low (0-1% on my system). - Enable multicore audio processing. Even with an empty Set, observe that the CPU meter jumps to at least 10-20%. On Windows, idle CPU usage should remain identical between single and multicore modes. - Attempt playback of a nontrivial Set; for example, a few tracks of recorded audio. A Set that plays back fine in single-core mode will exhibit unpredictable audio crackling and rapid spikes in CPU usage when using multicore mode. I have tested this across multiple versions of Ableton (various versions of 9 and 10 both exhibit this issue), multiple audio interfaces from various manufacturers (Behringer X32, NI Audio Kontrol 1, onboard chipset audio, PreSonus FireStudio), and even multiple audio backends (winepulse, wineasio->JACK). The issue seems to be most pronounced when using pulseaudio, but it is present across all audio backends. Most importantly, this issue can be duplicated using wineasio and a JACK server with the dummy backend (aka not connected to any audio interface). I am unsure where to start collecting logs for this. One guess: perhaps there is some sort of delay or sleep occuring while a mutex is being held? The program will also hang when attempting to modify any new instrument. Is there some bug with Wine dispatching Windows dialogs? Confirmed on multiple machines including Ubuntu with 3.14 and 3.15, and a Debian x64 VM with a .wine created under Debian version, and upgraded to 3.0.2. Instructions: - Open 0CC (and optionally open an existing file. - Press Space (to enable editing) and mash the keyboard a bit to enter notes. - Press Ctrl+S and specify a filename. - Mash a few keys and press Ctrl+S a few times. At this point 0CC will usually crash with an assertion error in CString, often with a backtrace consisting of a single entry of 0x0. One time I got a backtrace pointing to MFC UI code. ------------ I think this is a memory corruption issue arising from calling `AfxFormatString1(text, IDS_FILE_SAVED, text);` with the same input and output = https://github.com/HertzDevil/0CC-FamiTracker/blob/v0.3.14.5/Source/FamiTra… But it doesn't crash on Windows. Is that a program bug or Wine bug? - I think MFC is statically linked. I thought it was a regression from some unknown earlier revision, but I installed a Debian Stretch 64 VM, `apt-get install wine wine32` (https://packages.debian.org/stretch/wine = 1.8.7-2), and `wine 0CC-FamiTracker.exe` experiences the same issue. Maybe the crash doesn't manifest on Wine 32? Similarily, it will page fault when using "save to" most of the time. That makes it impossible to use these functions. It doesn't appear to be a regression (I have witnessed this on all versions from 1.3.7 to 1.7.9). Using native comctl32.dll solves the crashing. I think that's associated with ado15, but doing winetricks art2kmin doesn't seem to help that...? ADO has always been a mystery to me. WORKAROUND: It is working, if i select "Windows XP" in winecfg, but not working for example for "Windows 10". So it seems that the drag and drop feature got lost at later "windows versions". On a real Windows 10 machine it works without any problems. I want to use Cygwin's xterm to connect to the samba server that holds the svn checkout directory and use Wine to run TortoiseSVN locally on that server. The user would be presented with a nice visual representation of the state of their checked out Subversion project, and performance would be good. On Windows, TortoiseSVN can display its icons in any file chooser window, and in Windows Explorer. I have also found that WinSCP's explorer view will show icons for the local machine. I would prefer not to have to run WinSCP in order to view TortoiseSVN icons. Perhaps a tiny Win32 program that merely shows a file dialog would be sufficient to run in an xterm, if Wine would support whatever system calls TortoiseSVN makes. For me, and many other programmers and IT personnel who work in a mixed Windows/Linux environment, Wine would be much more useful if there was a way to run it under Wine. I can get around this problem by using a symlink but that approach isn't ideal - in the case I tried I also had to create a symlink for another directory located in the directory where the exe was located. I've enclosed a patch that allows the user to specify WINEWMCLASS in his environment and have wine use that value as an alternative to the default behaviour. Let me know what you think. In my test program, this happens before the window is shown for the first time, and in wine, my error checking code triggers because the ScrollWindowEx() call fails with ERROR. This does not happen on real Windows; it instead returns NULLREGION. The attached program creates several configurations that attempt to reproduce this issue under different circumstances. The application is definitely still running, and the table window is definitely still active (you can here the alert sounds and cards being dealt) When I came across this issue initially, it didn't occur when using metacity as a window manager. Some applications start with the wrong decoration. It's a visual-only issue, as the application starts with focus and works nicely. But its non-client area starts with the decoration of inactive applications (greyed out). I wrote some small clients to debug this, and the simple program attached reproduces the issue. TLDR: it is a program that activates a window of a non-foreground thread and then tries to show it. --- # What I think is going on When we call SetActiveWindow(hwnd), hwnd does not become the foreground window, as the application thread is not the foreground thread yet (at this point the desktop window is the foreground window). SetActiveWindow() activates the non-client area only if the window is the foreground window, so we have activated the window but didn't activate its non-client area (which is correct AFAIU). Next we call ShowWindow(hwnd), and now the thread that owns hwnd should become foreground and SetActiveWindow(hwnd) is called. But as hwnd is already active it does nothing and returns, so the non-client area is draw as inactive. --- # Possible fix In order to fix this, we could change SetActiveWindow() behavior to the following: if (hwnd == current active window) if (hwnd == NtUserGetForegroundWindow() && non-client area of hwnd not active) activate non-client area of hwnd bail out I wrote a test for this, and I could see that this fix didn't break any other tests. I've decided to post here in order to know if the fix seems reasonable to you. Also, I had a question while debugging this and still couldn't figure out. I thought that focus was a global property related to the foreground window. But it seems that when a window is set to active the function to change the focus to it may also be called (even when the window does not belong to the foreground thread). Try to choose an image file which contains quite a few directories, subdirectories and files. Use the treeview on the left side to browse the directory hierarchy. If you click on various entries, notice that after a few clicks the treeview is reset to the all-collapsed state. That happens with both built-in and native comctl32. There's no console output when the treeview resets. Sengoku Rance uses the Alisesoft System4.0 Ver1.3 engine. I installed it with a clean wine prefix,googled like hell for help and tested it on two laptops each with the newest wine version on Arch: 1.6ghz dual core with ati hd 6320 (with the ati driver from git) 2.5 ghz dual core with geforce 9300gs (with nouveau from git) This is an old game using directx 6. Running the game itself from the console gives no output whatsoever.
