That app is portable, and the executable ran fine on my Ubuntu 20.4. Now I've installed Mint 20.1, then wine 6, then ran the same MLO executable again. Something bizarre happens: when I click on a tab in the app, its window moves to a specific position and size. If I move or resize the window and click one of the tabs, it moves back to that position. If I click elsewhere, this odd behavior doesn't happen. 1. Download from https://www.mylifeorganized.net/todo-list-windows.shtml and install 2. Launch the application. There should be two tabs at the top - "Outline" and "To-Do". 3. Click among them while moving the window around. I've run `sudo apt install --install-recommends winehq-devel`, but `wine --version` still outputs `wine-6.0` just like stable. When I try to run EstimateS version 9.1.0 via "wine drive_c/EstimateS\ 9\ Windows/EstimateSWin910/EstimateSWin910.exe" it crashes with "wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000024 at address 0xdf9149 (thread 0009), starting debugger..." I have these wine packages installed via the Ubuntu PPA: wine-gecko2.24:amd64 - 2.24-0ubuntu1~ppa1 wine-gecko2.24:i386 - 2.24-0ubuntu1~ppa1 wine-mono4.5.2 - 4.5.2-0ubuntu1~ppa1 wine1.7 - 1:1.7.25-0ubuntu1~ppa4 wine1.7-amd64 - 1:1.7.25-0ubuntu1~ppa4 wine1.7-i386 - 1:1.7.25-0ubuntu1~ppa4 winetricks - 0.0+20140302-0ubuntu2 The backtrace is attached. Please note that the sound starts a bit delayed (I think that also happens on Windows). After starting the first level it takes about 3.5 seconds before you can hear anything. When wine runs in virtual desktop mode and the intro video of MechCommander is over, as soon as the mouse pointer leaves the window, the game freezes and I get a backtrace on the console. There are no errors or fixmes directly related to the crash. If I then use ctrl+c in the console, the internal debugger of MechCommander starts (this also happens if the crash has not happened), but does not seem to be of any use (missing debug symbols I think), but at least the program does not die totally. If I disable direct draw for MechCommander (edit prefs.cfg in game directory and set "b DirectDraw = F") the game runs in windowed mode itself and I have not seen the crash happen. I have seen it happen with MechCommander Gold and also with the free demo of MechCommander. For that purpose, I installed the xboxdrv (the userspace driver for xbox 360 and 1 gamepads) and after running xboxdrv with the command xboxdrv --silent --trigger-as-button, I started the game. The game has support for joysticks (I made sure I enabled joystick support in the in-game options). However, the game does not detect it, since it does not respond to any button presses or axis movements from the gamepad. When running the game from the terminal, the output I get with the gamepad attached to the PC is attached to this bug report. I have tried running the game natively on Windows 7 and XP SP3 with the gamepad attached and it is detected and runs as expected. Furthermore, by running STO with apimonitor from http://www.rohitab.com/apimonitor in Windows, I was able to determine that the game uses direct input 8, specifically the IDirectInputDevice8 and IDirectInput8 interfaces, to detect and control the system mouse and any attached joystick. It uses in particular the IDirectInput8::EnumDevices to find any available joysticks. In order to determine if this is an issue specific to this game running on Wine, I tried using the gamepad with another game well supported by wine and which also supports joysticks: Trackmania Nations Forever. This one detects the gamepad as a joystick automatically and by adding +dinput to WINEDEBUG, I noticed the following line on the output: Code: trace:dinput:IDirectInputWImpl_EnumDevices (this=0x12f718,0x0004 'DIDEVTYPE_JOYSTICK',0x8fc5a0,0x12238a0,0001). Tested on Firefox 52 ESR, Waterfox and latest Pale Moon (you have to enable media.wmf.vp9.enabled to true for the latter so you can play videos on Youtube without native mfplat / vdec DLLs). I skimmed through Firefox's source code, it appears to be using IAudioStreamVolume::SetAllVolumes or similar calls. When I poked through Wine's code, it seems only coreaudio driver actually does anything here. The pulseaudio driver's SetAllVolumes is basically a no-op because it doesn't do anything with the volume it sets (except retrieve it with GetAllVolumes), and it's never sent to libpulse so of course it doesn't have any effect. The coreaudio driver does call ca_setvol or ca_session_setvol where the pulse driver is missing such a thing completely. With a quick search I found that pa_context_set_sink_input_volume might be useful for this purpose, but I don't really know much about libpulse, perhaps there's a better way.
