(By "soft lock", I mean that FL Studio itself is still responsive, but you're completely blocked from doing anything and the only way to get out of it is to kill the process.) ====== Steps to reproduce: 1. Download and install FL Studio 12 Demo: https://support.image-line.com/redirect/FLStudio_Installer_Google The demo and the full version are the same executable. You will need the Arial font or any ttf named as arial.ttf in "C:/Windows/fonts/". If you have Winetricks just run "winetricks corefonts" (you will need the cabextract package). 2. Download any 32-bit or 64-bit VST to test. This is the one I tried, a 32-bit plugin (http://veg.by/en/projects/syxg50/) The plugin itself is working perfectly. You can use any VST you want, as long as you know whether it's 32-bit or 64-bit. Put the dll file in "~/.wineprefix/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Steinberg/VstPlugins/". 3. Open the FL Studio version which DOESN'T match the instruction set of the VST you're using. If you're using a 32-bit VST plugin, open FL Studio 12 (64-bit). If you're using a 64-bit VST plugin, open FL Studio 12 (32-bit). (If you're using the VST I linked to, open FL Studio 12 (64-bit)) 4. When FL Studio is launched for the first time, a featured project file is automatically loaded. Click "File" in the top left corner and then "New" to create an empty project. 5. Click "Options" > "Manage Plugins" 6. Click the "Start scan" button with "Verify plugins" enabled (make sure the light is red). Let it scan for plugins. 7. Close the window, click "Add", and then "More plugins..." (under System) 8. Find and select "S-YXG50" (or if you used another VST, pick that). 9. Because the instruction set of the VST plugin doesn't match the host program's (FL Studio), FL Studio will try to run the VST plugin under a "bridge" (which uses ilbridge.exe, the bridging program installed as part of FL Studio). However, the plugin never loads. This results in a number of popular Windows applications partially, or sometime totally, not working anymore, such as IrfanView, Faststone Image Viewer, and XPDF-Xchange viewer. I confirmed that both wine 2.10 2.13, and 2.14 exhibit the same problem. I hypothesize that this issue was introduced in wine 2.8 following the changes for fake dll generation that were announced in https://www.wine-staging.com/news/2017-05-16-release-2.8.html. # Reproducing this issue 1. Install 32-bit wine 2.14. 2. Install 32-bit IrfanView 4.44 - latest version as of this writing. 3. Install `winetricks comctl32` - Microsoft COM control DLL 5.8 for Windows XP, year 2001. Note: #2 and #3 have worked together for me for all wine versions up to 2.6 (I skipped 2.8-9, and 2.11-12). 4. Run IrfanView, select menu entry File > Open; IrfanView crashes. The corresponding wine API is documented in https://source.winehq.org/WineAPI/HIMAGELIST_QueryInterface.html. Other examples of Windows applications that fail with the same message include: * PDF-Xchange Viewer version 2.5 - it doesn't start at all. * FastStone Image Viewer 6.2 - it hangs with an hourglass mouse pointer. The obvious work-around is not to load the native comctl32.dll and rely entirely on the built-in dll. While this works, as it has always worked in the past, the native implementation lacks enough functionality that at least IrfanView and Faststone image capture do not work well. That is why several forum threads recommend using Microsoft's comctr32.dll for such applications. For IrfanView, the impairment is mainly cosmetic, so it can be tolerated. Faststone Image Capture, however, can't display thumbnails past the first screenful (about 20-30 pictures) if the native comctl32 DLL isn't loaded. # Conclusion IrfanView and other important Windows applications fail to work partially or entirely when the native comctl32.dll is loaded. Before version wine 2.10 (possibly 2.8) they all worked without a glitch. You will need to create an account for the game, this has its own bugs in wine but they belong in another bug report. You will also need to install dxvk using winetricks. Once in game, if the game has not lost focus so far, i.e. you haven't switched apps with alt tab on KDE or gnome, then the gamepad should work well with the game. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56817 Bug ID: 56817 Summary: Wuthering Waves launcher doesn't know what browser to use Product: Wine Version: 9.10 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org Reporter: francisco278herrera(a)gmail.com Distribution: --- The links for events and social media sometimes open on Chrome and other times on Firefox even though only chrome is the default browser, i downloaded the same installer several times and this behavior changes depending on which one is used to install the launcher, even though they all have the same version number, once installed the launcher only opens links in firefox or in chrome, or doesn't work but tries to use firefox. once the launcher is installed this behavior doesn't change, this happens even when winetricks is not installed Steps to reproduce: on kubuntu 24.04, Download the wuthering waves installer from the official website: https://wutheringwaves.kurogames.com/en/ then create a new wine prefix using winetricks, but don't change or download anything in it then using the winetricks menu run the installer, when the installer closes the launcher for wuthering waves opens then wait until the links in the launcher appear which can take up to around 10 minutes even on windows and then click on them and see which browser they open on then close the launcher, open the start menu on kde, search uninstall wuthering waves then click on it and uninstall wuthering waves then repeat these steps several times around 5 and see which browsers the links open on, sometimes they open on chrome and other times they open on firefox, on windows they always open on the default browser which i have set to chrome -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. When Wine was compiled with OSMesa support, tiles containing terrain turn black as soon as I launch a game. Reproduced with Nvidia binary drivers 375.20 and nouveau/mesa. I tried Civilization III Complete (both the Steam and the GOG.com versions have this bug).
