If you try to skip the intro, it works until you try to play another video, at which point the game locks up. This issue appears to have been present in both reports on AppDB, dating from 2008 to 2011. I tried using winetricks to install avifil32.dll, which failed, so I grabbed the DLL out of the exe it downloads manually and installed it myself, to no avail. If I trace all, I find a bunch of MCI spam around when it hangs up, so that might be the faulty component. I've attached a truncated log, since it just repeats that spam until I force quit. Problem does not occur with a native gdiplus dll. Compare the two screenshot: the first one with native dll, the second one with the builtin dll. Note the behaviour in a real Windows 10 box is the behaviour of the native dll. Result: splash screen is shown and then welcome screen is displayed. But after clicking "Not now, maybe later" it halts with: Application: devenv.exe Framework Version: v4.0.30319 Description: The application requested process termination through System.Environment.FailFast(string message). Message: Failed to schedule time on the UI thread. A continuation would never execute.
