The VS2022 (and I think also VS2019) C++ standard library in C++20 mode uses this DLL to implement the timezone database as specified by the C++ standard. The standard library loads this DLL dynamically with LoadLibraryExW (see <https://github.com/microsoft/STL/blob/ef62d3fa0b8e4e2406b9bb74e916e1ca8a1df…>) and throws a std::system_error (see <https://github.com/microsoft/STL/blob/ef62d3fa0b8e4e2406b9bb74e916e1ca8a1df…> and <https://github.com/microsoft/STL/blob/ef62d3fa0b8e4e2406b9bb74e916e1ca8a1df…>) when it cannot load it. In order to provide compatibility with modern Windows versions, IMHO Wine should thus ship a compatible icu.dll. A similar issue also exists for older Windows versions even on the Microsoft side (see <https://github.com/microsoft/STL/issues/1911>). This issue arose since I recently modernized timezone handling in OpenMPT by using C++20 chrono. For now, I have worked around the problem in OpenMPT. This time, the test harness stacktrace blew up on unwind resulting in getting a wine exception handler coming up at top level, so it may have corrupted memory too. Looks like it's a duplicate of https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12401 but isn't. Installing dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe downloaded from the MS website, the installer will open and verify the integrity of files. The next stage will attempt to install the .NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile. Towards the end of this install the installer will fail with HRESULT 0x80070643, leaving little or no information in the %TEMP% folder as to the cause. The installer will only run if wine is set to WinXP. Process used to reproduce: WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-net40 sh winetricks gecko WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-net40 sh winetricks windowscodecs ie7 msxml3 WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-net40 wineboot WINEDEBUG=+relay WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-net40 wine Downloads/net40/dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe &> net-out I also attempted to install the .NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile prior to installing the Full package. This provides the same error, the only difference to the above process used was the filename of the Client Profile installer dotNetFx40_Client_x86_x64.exe. Each time I attempted to install I used a clean WINEPREFIX, deleting the prior one before attempting again. With the recent rustup 1.27.0 using wine-staging with the ntdll-Junction_Points patches, the toolchain installation doesn't complete properly, failing to write to the settings.toml under the prefix home .rustup directory info. A bug with the same root cause is also present on rustup 1.26.0 where while the installation was completing properly, it was failing to remove the .rustup/tmp/* directories, causing issues with subsequent installations. Both bugs express the same behavioral pattern with few differences. I investigated the directory bug firstly, so I will detail this, and confirmed that the problem and the expected solution are the same. Rustup (or one of it's dependency managing files) get the handle of the temporary directory using CreateFileW and then checking if it's a reparse point using DeviceIoControl with FSCTL_GET_REPARSE_POINT. The directories (and the file) aren't reparse points at all, so the readlink fails returining EINVAL. This EINVAL is then mapped to an NT_STATUS using errno_to_status that map EINVAL to STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER. However this mapping is incorrect for FSCTL_GET_REPARSE_POINT as in this case applications that handle this case like rustup try to handle this case by epxecting STATUS_NOT_A_REPARSE_POINT. Point-and-click game developed by Wizarbox and released in 2008. I couldn't find the game on either Steam or GOG. However, for those who want to confirm the bug, the game is easily found in The Internet Archive Software Collection. OS: Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS 64bit. Wine: wine-9.3 development version (staging version is also affected). Default Wine configuration, unmodified. Clean Wine directory. Description: The game crashes at the start of the "Hook the Keys" mini-game. An error message box is displayed. This is chronologically the third mini-game in the game; the first two mini-games do not cause the game to crash. This "Hook the Keys" mini-game is launched when you play Max and you use the "Fishing rod" with the "Wooden grille" at the centre of the Winsome Maid deck.
