This behavior did *not* occur in Wine 9.21 and earlier. ### Behavior: When the plugin window is closed (e.g. via the PitStop GUI), it disappears from Acrobat’s internal state — but remains *visibly open* on screen, frozen, and unresponsive. It is not redrawn or refreshed, and cannot be interacted with. Wine appears to believe the window has been destroyed, but the X11 window remains mapped. This affects usability severely. The bug affects both 32-bit and WOW64 installations. It occurs whether or not a window manager is used. ### Regression Confirmation: - Works in Wine 9.21: PitStop windows close cleanly and disappear from screen. - Broken in Wine 9.22 through 10.9 (latest tested): PitStop windows persist after close. ### Notes: This is *not* specific to WOW64 or any DPI configuration. I suspect the following commit introduced the regression: > `user32: Reimplement WIN_ListChildren() using NtUserBuildHwndList().` The bug appears to be that Wine no longer propagates child window teardown (e.g. `DestroyWindow` or `UnmapNotify`) to X11 for plugin-type windows that are marked as `WS_POPUP`, `WS_CHILD`, or transient. These windows may be missed by the new child enumeration logic. When wine runs in virtual desktop mode and the intro video of MechCommander is over, as soon as the mouse pointer leaves the window, the game freezes and I get a backtrace on the console. There are no errors or fixmes directly related to the crash. If I then use ctrl+c in the console, the internal debugger of MechCommander starts (this also happens if the crash has not happened), but does not seem to be of any use (missing debug symbols I think), but at least the program does not die totally. If I disable direct draw for MechCommander (edit prefs.cfg in game directory and set "b DirectDraw = F") the game runs in windowed mode itself and I have not seen the crash happen. I have seen it happen with MechCommander Gold and also with the free demo of MechCommander. For that purpose, I installed the xboxdrv (the userspace driver for xbox 360 and 1 gamepads) and after running xboxdrv with the command xboxdrv --silent --trigger-as-button, I started the game. The game has support for joysticks (I made sure I enabled joystick support in the in-game options). However, the game does not detect it, since it does not respond to any button presses or axis movements from the gamepad. When running the game from the terminal, the output I get with the gamepad attached to the PC is attached to this bug report. I have tried running the game natively on Windows 7 and XP SP3 with the gamepad attached and it is detected and runs as expected. Furthermore, by running STO with apimonitor from http://www.rohitab.com/apimonitor in Windows, I was able to determine that the game uses direct input 8, specifically the IDirectInputDevice8 and IDirectInput8 interfaces, to detect and control the system mouse and any attached joystick. It uses in particular the IDirectInput8::EnumDevices to find any available joysticks. In order to determine if this is an issue specific to this game running on Wine, I tried using the gamepad with another game well supported by wine and which also supports joysticks: Trackmania Nations Forever. This one detects the gamepad as a joystick automatically and by adding +dinput to WINEDEBUG, I noticed the following line on the output: Code: trace:dinput:IDirectInputWImpl_EnumDevices (this=0x12f718,0x0004 'DIDEVTYPE_JOYSTICK',0x8fc5a0,0x12238a0,0001). The changes that went into wine are different from what staging had: staging just had a stub for MemoryWorkingSetExInformation, whereas live now has an implementation. Endless legend crashes after nvidia logo (I think, I can hear their slogan but the screen is black). No crash log is generated. I tried with and with out glsl, same result. Endless space 2 crashes after a few moments. Here there is a crash after a few moments. There is no sound so I don't know when exactly but when emulating win 8.1 there is a crash log. Tested on Firefox 52 ESR, Waterfox and latest Pale Moon (you have to enable media.wmf.vp9.enabled to true for the latter so you can play videos on Youtube without native mfplat / vdec DLLs). I skimmed through Firefox's source code, it appears to be using IAudioStreamVolume::SetAllVolumes or similar calls. When I poked through Wine's code, it seems only coreaudio driver actually does anything here. The pulseaudio driver's SetAllVolumes is basically a no-op because it doesn't do anything with the volume it sets (except retrieve it with GetAllVolumes), and it's never sent to libpulse so of course it doesn't have any effect. The coreaudio driver does call ca_setvol or ca_session_setvol where the pulse driver is missing such a thing completely. With a quick search I found that pa_context_set_sink_input_volume might be useful for this purpose, but I don't really know much about libpulse, perhaps there's a better way. I think it might be a good idea to open a bugreport about the application not being able to load builtin comctl32, maybe one of the developers has an idea how to fix this, and maybe this "black display" issue might be solved then as well -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
