Audio is played normally and the app proceeds to the main menu after the video ends. Also, pressing a key aborts the video as expected. The video is visible on a native XP machine. Both apps use smackw32.dll to display the video. Curiously, this is the second such sequence. The first one, opening "loads.smk" produces no exception (but it is too short to be a video). Surprisingly, Burg Schreckenstein's ending credits extro_[1-7].smk are rendered (these appear to be still images without animation). Logs are available upon request. What channels? You may add [Smacker] Debug=1 to win.ini and set WINEDEBUG=+debugstr. I've not yet written an AppDB entry for either of these 2 children apps. "5 Freunde" is Enid Blyton's "Famous 5" or "Club des cinq". The Cygwin code assumes CPUID leaf 0x0d to indicate in EBX a 64-byte-aligned value. That may or may not be true on current Windows systems, but on current Linux systems running Wine, with recent CPUs, a CPU feature called "PKU" or "PKRU" (memory protection keys for userspace), enabled by default, indicates an additional 8-byte XSAVE area. This makes the Cygwin code attempt to xsave to a non-64-byte aligned area, which causes a segfault and abnormal program termination. While this is clearly a bug, it's a bug that apparently cannot be triggered by current Windows systems. This means Wine fails to be bug-for-bug compatible in this case. I don't think there's an easy way around that: we'd have to trap XGETBV and CPUID instructions to pretend that a feature that is enabled by Linux actually isn't available. It would have been nice if the Linux kernel had provided a way to disable the pku feature on a per-process basis, but AFAICT, it didn't. The nopku kernel command line argument makes things work, but requires a reboot and disables the very useful PKU feature for the entire system. Having two issues for one report was confusing. The issue here is that the UI only updates after the application has been moved around on screen (as shown in the attachment). This occurs on a fresh install of Wine Staging and first noticed in 8.13 (but may be even older). There have been concerns raised that this could be related to the JUCE framework, however that is uncertain. "...the dropdowns don't show the updated selection until a full repaint of the settings window (by closing and opening it again). There are possibly related messages in the log, I would check whether other applications built with JUCE are affected as well." I would create a merge request if I could, but I am unable to fork the project first. Anyway, the solution involves changing the second argument in SearchPathA inside pif_cmd from progname to filename, then altering both progpath and progname as a concatenated string that is then passed into start_dosbox, whence DOSBox opens and automatically opens the executable at the same location as the PIF. I have tested Wine on two PIF files using this patch, and both seem to work as intended. When wine runs in virtual desktop mode and the intro video of MechCommander is over, as soon as the mouse pointer leaves the window, the game freezes and I get a backtrace on the console. There are no errors or fixmes directly related to the crash. If I then use ctrl+c in the console, the internal debugger of MechCommander starts (this also happens if the crash has not happened), but does not seem to be of any use (missing debug symbols I think), but at least the program does not die totally. If I disable direct draw for MechCommander (edit prefs.cfg in game directory and set "b DirectDraw = F") the game runs in windowed mode itself and I have not seen the crash happen. I have seen it happen with MechCommander Gold and also with the free demo of MechCommander.
