Specifically, NM_CUSTOMDRAW CDDS_ITEMPREPAINT handler can set CDIS_SELECTED flag, causing the item to be drawn selected. Setting Explorer theme seems to enable the behavior, uItemState changes appear ignored otherwise. Wine currently does not emulate this behavior. Recommended change: pay attention to CDDS_ITEMPREPAINT altering uItemState and use changed state for drawing - but only if Explorer theme is set. When I have a listbox, the field is not correctly initialized, despite the list is ok. Debugging my application, I have found that it is due to a strange memory management. I start by saying that Clipper/xBase uses dynamic scoping, so the value of a variable is the last assigned to it into the stack; a variable can be local or global (prefixed by m->). When using the dialog that has the problem, I use the activation command (Fivewin library): m->mTipoDoc:=.... // assign the global variable m->mTipoDoc activate DIALOG oDlg centered on init (SettaCombo()) function SettaCombo() // initialization code of the dialog ... // use the global variable m->mTipoDoc but, at this point, when using WINE, the variable has lost its content and is empty I solved the problem using a local variable that temporarily holds the value of the global variable: m->mTipoDoc:=.... // assign the global variable m->mTipoDoc local tmpcod:=m->mTipoDoc // to solve the wine bug activate DIALOG oDlg centered on init (SettaCombo(tmpcod)) function SettaCombo(val) m->mTipoDoc:=val // to solve the wine bug ... // use the global variable m->mTipoDoc Evidently the local variable is managed in a different way by WINE and the error has disappered. To test this behaviour, I wrote the attached sample program. Into the zip there is a readme.pdf that explains how it works. A brief MCVE is attached (source-encoding-agnostic) that shows the problem by rendering a message box. Of course it renders just fine on Windows 10. I originally encountered this when a Cheat Engine cheat table used Unicode headers and emojis for purely aesthetic purposes. Take for example the symbol "????" which is U+1D412: MATHEMATICAL BOLD CAPITAL S I could find out that the only font in a proper Windows install that *does* include that character is `seguisym.ttf`. I used such one liner to confirm this: ``` python3 -c "from fontTools.ttLib import TTFont; import sys; cmap=TTFont(sys.argv[1]).getBestCmap(); print(cmap.get(0x1D412,'MISSING'))" EXAMPLEFONT.ttf ``` Thus, as a workaround, I copied all seg* fonts to my /usr/share/fonts from a Windows install, did a `wineboot -u`, and then tried using the following crude registry modification to force the symbol font. As a result, shell font did change to Segoe, but the math symbols still rendered as tofu: ``` Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes] "MS Shell Dlg"="Segoe UI Symbol" "MS Shell Dlg 2"="Segoe UI Symbol" "Tahoma"="Segoe UI Symbol" "Segoe UI"="Segoe UI Symbol" "Segoe UI Symbol"="Segoe UI Symbol" "Segoe UI Emoji"="Segoe UI Symbol" ``` I also tried setting winecfg's "Message Box" configuration to use Segoe UI Symbol with no change in result.
