A brief MCVE is attached (source-encoding-agnostic) that shows the problem by rendering a message box. Of course it renders just fine on Windows 10. I originally encountered this when a Cheat Engine cheat table used Unicode headers and emojis for purely aesthetic purposes. Take for example the symbol "????" which is U+1D412: MATHEMATICAL BOLD CAPITAL S I could find out that the only font in a proper Windows install that *does* include that character is `seguisym.ttf`. I used such one liner to confirm this: ``` python3 -c "from fontTools.ttLib import TTFont; import sys; cmap=TTFont(sys.argv[1]).getBestCmap(); print(cmap.get(0x1D412,'MISSING'))" EXAMPLEFONT.ttf ``` Thus, as a workaround, I copied all seg* fonts to my /usr/share/fonts from a Windows install, did a `wineboot -u`, and then tried using the following crude registry modification to force the symbol font. As a result, shell font did change to Segoe, but the math symbols still rendered as tofu: ``` Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes] "MS Shell Dlg"="Segoe UI Symbol" "MS Shell Dlg 2"="Segoe UI Symbol" "Tahoma"="Segoe UI Symbol" "Segoe UI"="Segoe UI Symbol" "Segoe UI Symbol"="Segoe UI Symbol" "Segoe UI Emoji"="Segoe UI Symbol" ``` I also tried setting winecfg's "Message Box" configuration to use Segoe UI Symbol with no change in result. This time I was surprised by a constant 30FPS lock, despite the fact both my game of choice settings and the external tools profiles for its executable didn't have one (indeed if I removed wine's dlls, native d3d9 could easily get almost 10 times as much framerate) Long story short, after some time banging my head I figured this was happening because "Background Application Max Frame Rate" was enabled in the nvidia control panel. Problem being of course that a foreground fullscreen window definitively isn't supposed to be affected by that. No regression testing could be done. Previous commits between 8.13 to wine 8.14 won't compile because of errors in in "dlls/http.sys/http.c". Transformers Fall of Cybertron Multiplayer was taken offline in April of 2020 but since June 22nd 2022 has been re-implemented by the Warehouse. https://wiki.aiwarehouse.xyz/en/home Please note you must create a wineprefix with wine 9 or newer first for the custom DLL to have access to bcryptprimitives.dll. Wine-8.7 to Wine-8.13 can load into multiplayer when following https://wiki.aiwarehouse.xyz/en/tfc-foc-pc-guide and https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3131604937 . Wine-8.14 and higher cannot access multiplayer when you follow the above guides. It visually shows a "Connecting to Transformers: FoC servers..." loading screen infinitely. The new DLL does not affect this bug as when we were only using a registry file to allow multiplayer functionality it still caused this issue. Download links: This game is abandonware and it's steam page has been taken down https://store.steampowered.com/app/213120/Transformers_Fall_of_Cybertron/ and can no longer be purchased. If someone requires a copy and didn't buy it before December 2017, the internet archive has a re-upload from user "OldenFood" of the steam version. Even after I manage to pass the challenge, I get a error page telling me I didn't specified the Wine version for the screenshot, but it's quite obvious what's happening here: the CF challenge is getting in the way, eating the POST'd form data (including the screenshot itself!), and after getting past the challenge, screenshots.php receives no data at all, so it errors out with the first missing piece of information it can find, I guess. I did manage to see that there are 42 new posts in the moderation queue, most of them in Russian, so my guess is the forum is being hammered by spambots. The game itself continues to run, and I can interact with the menu, but the cutscene remains frozen. I also tried running the game with winedmo, and while the cutscenes do play, the experience is quite unpleasant. The video plays slowly, and the audio stutters and distorts slightly.
