Was is most evident is that the last character(s) is(are) not canceled. I attach a vertical concatenation of 3 screenshots: the first is the state before hitting backspace: I typed "abcdefghijkl" and added an inline image, the second is after hitting backspace (I cancel the "g"); notice how the last "kl" are not correctly canceled and the image is not moved to the left and the third is how it should have looked. No error message is displayed while hitting backspace (it complains about IME all the time but I think it's no big deal). I have seen this problem at least in versions 1.0.1 (under Debian testing, Ubuntu hardy and intrepid, both 32 and 64 bits) and 1.0.13 (Debian testing 64 bits). The situation is even worse under Ubuntu intrepid (32 bits OS, Wine v1.0.1) as text disappears as soon as it is typed (Esc redisplays it briefly). I can live with the image (visible at the end of the line) not correctly positioned after backspace (it seldom occurs), but the last character not canceled is a real (visual) pain. I can test anything you wish and I understand programming/debugging. Thank you for any help. Running Wine 4.0.1 stable on MacOS Mojave 10.14.6 installed via "brew install wine". STEPS TO REPRODUCE: - Open an affected CHM file with "wine hh file.chm" Note: the CHM files I've tried work flawlessly under Windows XP using native hh.exe. ACTIONS THAT INITIATE PROBLEMS: - Attempt to do either a global search (using the "Search" tab) - Attempt a page search (using Ctrl-F) - Attempt to navigate through the document with links on the document's home page. PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED: - No results are given for valid searches. - Home page links do nothing when clicked on. WHAT DOES WORK: I can navigate through the document by clicking on links in the "Contents" tab. SOLUTIONS ATTEMPTED: - Use a manually installed alternative hh.exe from an original Windows XP and a Windows 7 installation disk. Result: I cannot bypass Wine's internal CHM viewer. - Use a manually installed alternative hh.exe, renamed hhxp.exe (for example), and changing the registry key at "HKCR\chm.file\shell\open\command" so that it points to hhxp.exe. Result: I cannot bypass Wine's internal CHM viewer. - Install an alternative CHM viewer, such as kchmviewer. Result: the file opens, but navigation and searching are impossible. This may be a problem with kchmviewer, but I include it here as additional information. Viewing it using winhlp32 from Windows 98 under Wine shows a similar rendering issue, so the cause most probably lies elsewhere. They both render the text incorrectly, but differently. Italic text does not render properly. View the attached license.hlp file in Wine winhlp32. In the "4. SAMPLE CODE" and "5. REDISTRIBUTABLE COMPONENTS" paragraphs, the second instance of "Microsoft Systems Journal" is supposed to be rendered in italics (followed by "(MSJ)" which is not italic). Bug 7520 may be related to this. Trying to disable hardware acceleration through registry does not change the behaviour of the application, and trying to prevent library loading to prevent HW acceleration only leads to different kinds of crashes. This exact bug was already present in VOCALOID 5 (so at least since 2018), and probably affects other WPF apps as well. Install 20170517-next (https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Winetricks/winetricks/master/src/winetric…) 2. export WINEARCH=win32 3. Using winetricks, install dotnet46 3. WINEDLLOVERRIDES=fusion=b wine ~/.cache/winetricks/dotnet461/NDP461-KB3102436-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU.exe /q /norestart 1. I initially tried "winetricks dotnet461" directly, but it would crash as soon as the 4.6.1 install started. Executing in two separate steps solved the problem. 4. Run winecfg and set the Windows version to Windows 10 (but same error occurs with Windows 8) 5. Run 1PasswordSetup-6.5.401.exe to install it. 6. After installation completed, it crashed when it auto-ran for the first time. 7. Create a symlink to sqlite3.dll: 1. cd "~/.wine/drive_c/users/$USER/Local Settings/Application Data/1password/app/6/" 2. ln -s x86/sqlite3.dll ./ 3. Standard Window Manager (using KDE 4.2 KWin) actions are effectless: * Hitting Alt+F3, selecting "Minimize" does not work * Hitting Alt+F3, selecting "Always in background" does not work * Hitting Alt+F3, selecting "To desktop #..." does not work. The only thing that allows me to continue the installation is to hold the Alt-key, click and hold the mouse on the window and move it to the second screen. Then I can proceed installation. The FormatMessageW (winbase.h) function fails if given the valid error code CRYPT_E_NO_MATCH as an argument (see attached code snippet). It returns 0 indicating an error and does not modify the lpBuffer pointer argument. Applications that assume that FormatMessageW will allocate the error message at the memory address lpBuffer is pointing to will crash (like in my case) if they initalized lpBuffer with 0 before. Technically, this is the fault of the application since it assumed that FormatMessageW will not return an error if given a well-formed function call, but wine is missing the error message in the first place and that should be fixed. I'd also like to propose setting lpBuffer to a pointer to an empty string (null character) instead of not modifying it when FormatMessageW fails. (Create a global empty string variable instead of allocating memory each time). Wine complains about an unimplemented function within the msvcp140.dll library inside of the debugging log. It is also noteworthy that some ASCII symbols like exclamation marks do not cause a crash. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open a Baseplate template inside of Roblox Studio. 2. Enable the "Find in Place" window by going through the "Window" menu at the top, then through "Script" and then click on "Find in Place". 3. Enable RegEx (.*) inside of the newly spawned window and then type ")" into the search bar of said window. A Wine wrapper program called "Vinegar" can be used to make the process of setting up Roblox Studio a lot easier. The resizing handles should be visible when clicking an object with the select tool. By contrast, the turning/shearing handles are visible. The turning/shearing handels appear when clicking an object twice with the select tool. Additionally, Bezier handles and points on curves do appear, but in wrong colors (cyan instead of red). Bezier handles and points appear when using the edit shape tool. This is on a wine 1.1.2 install on Ubuntu Linux 8.04 in its standard settings. The same bug is present when using Xara Xtreme X1, which is the thirdlast edition. The bug is also present in earlier versions of wine (e.g. 0.9.56) and CrossOver (e.g. 7.0.1). When opening a search window, this window opens in the background instead of on top of the main window. I then have to move or resize the main window in order to highilght the search window and fill in the search data. But this only happens the first time I open the search window. Next time it opens in the foreground. If I untick the box "Allow the window manager to control the windows" in winecfg > graphics, the search window opens expected. In order for this to work properly, the output handle created in this code must be inherited by the subprocess - thus the bInheritHandles argument to CreateProcess must be TRUE. And indeed if this program is compiled to test-true.exe, a simple text file 'test.in' and the gzip binary are placed in the same directory, and then test-true.exe is run, it successfully produces the output test.gz. If the TRUE argument is switched to FALSE and the file is compiled again to test-false.exe, when the program is run in the same way on a 'real' Windows sytem (32 bit Vista Business in this case) the following is output: gzip: stdout: Bad file descriptor This is also fine and expected, since the output file handle was not passed to gzip. *However* if the same test-false.exe program is run with Wine (the Fedora 10 wine-core-1.1.12-1.fc10.i386 package in this case) it runs in just the same way as test-true.exe, generating the test.gz output. This suggests to me that the bInheritHandles argument is ignored by Wine. As stated, this is a minor bug but it would be nice if Wine behaved the same way as Windows here. (In our case we discovered this problem after we tested our program successfully under Wine, but then had it fail on a real Windows system.)
