Old versions of Notepad can't open big text files. Instead, Notepad displays a message saying "The file FILENAME is too large for Notepad. Use another editor to edit the file." Wine crashes instead of displaying this message. A giant file can be created in numerous ways. I used a small python script: for i in range(1999999): print i "python script.py > giant.txt" gives a giant file. I tried opening the file using Wine running Notepad and using DOSBox running Windows 3.1 running Notepad. Windows 3.1 is just a normal DOS application, so it runs fine under DOSBox. I'm attaching a PNG file displaying the differences between Wine and DOSBox. That's fine. However, when enabling the console ENABLE_VIRTUAL_TERMINAL_PROCESSING mode on stdout with SetConsoleMode, no error is returned, so the application has no way to detect whether VT sequences are supported or not. This is documented in https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/console/setconsolemode. The port of Turbo Vision at https://github.com/magiblot/tvision is affected by this. When using the Console API, Turbo Vision prefers VT sequences over SetConsoleCursorPosition/SetConsoleTextAttribute for code reusability and performance. Nevertheless, it can fall back to the latter method when SetConsoleMode fails to enable either ENABLE_VIRTUAL_TERMINAL_PROCESSING or DISABLE_NEWLINE_AUTO_RETURN. Since SetConsoleMode does not return error on wineconsole, garbage is shown instead of a colorful interface. STEPS TO REPRODUCE To reproduce the issue on Turbo Vision: (A) - Using the attached 'tvdemo.exe' 1. Run the application on wineconsole. You should see a black-and-white background and escape sequences drawn on the console. 2. Press Alt+F, then D. You should see the command prompt, and the message "VT enabled" at the top, which demonstrates the issue in SetConsoleMode. (B) - Compiling from source code (requires up-to-date CMake and MSVC). 1. Insert the following code after line 63 in source/linux/win32con.cpp (https://github.com/magiblot/tvision/blob/dd4e410e60a34e08053399e346d4ed4e63…) ``` if (supportsVT) cerr << "VT enabled" << endl; else cerr << "VT not enabled: " << GetLastError() << endl; ``` 2. Follow the build instructions at https://github.com/magiblot/tvision/blob/dd4e410e60a34e08053399e346d4ed4e63… 3. Follow the steps in (A). EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR On Windows, support for VT sequences can be disabled by turning on the "Legacy Console" mode. If tvdemo.exe is ran in these conditions, the interface is displayed properly. If entering the command prompt by pressing Alt+F, then D, the message "VT not enabled: 87" is displayed (error 87 stands for ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER), which is what should be shown on wineconsole as well, since it clearly does not support VT sequences. On macOS, pseudo/tunnel interfaces (like lo0, gif0) may appear early during network interface enumeration and have empty or zero physical addresses. Some legacy applications use GetAdaptersInfo and blindly select the first returned adapter for hardware identity. When this happens, the application propagates an empty MAC address, causing authentication to fail. Observed application-side symptom: Aion 4.8 x64 login server rejects connection due to an empty MAC value (macAddress=). Steps to Reproduce: 1. Run Aion 4.8 x64 on a clean Wine prefix on macOS. 2. Attempt to login. 3. Observe rejection because the first adapter has no valid physical address. Actual Result: GetAdaptersInfo returns adapters without a valid MAC before adapters with a real MAC. The application reads the first adapter, sends an empty MAC, and authentication fails. Symptoms: When running a Windows application in fullscreen mode under XWayland, opening and closing a combobox (dropdown list) inside a modal dialog causes all subsequent mouse clicks in that dialog to be ignored. Keyboard navigation (Tab/Space) still works. The issue does NOT happen in windowed mode. Steps to reproduce (using FastStone Image Viewer as an example): Open an image in FSViewer and press 'F' to enter Fullscreen. Press Ctrl+R to open the "Resize" dialog. Click on any combobox (e.g., the "Filter" dropdown) to open the list, then click to close it or select an item. Try to click the "OK", "Cancel" or any other button with the mouse. Clicks are completely ignored. Investigation & Workaround: The issue is caused by a conflict between Wine's XGrabPointer (used for fullscreen ClipCursor) and XWayland/KWin surface restacking when the override_redirect window of the combobox is destroyed. The grab is not properly restored/respected by the compositor, and ButtonPress events are lost. Setting the following registry keys completely fixes the issue: HKCU\Software\Wine\X11 Driver\GrabFullscreen = "N" HKCU\Software\Wine\X11 Driver\GrabPointer = "N" Suggested fix: Wine should probably avoid strict XGrabPointer for non-gaming fullscreen applications under XWayland, or detect XWayland and rely on Wayland pointer constraints instead, as X11 grab emulation in Wayland compositors is prone to state desyncs during popup creation/destruction. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
