It relies on layered windows and DwmExtendFrameIntoClientArea to handle the transparent display. Currently, the main UI elements show, but the game (or any other application) does not show through. This seems to be because DwmExtendFrameIntoClientArea is only a stub. I'm not sure if that's the only reason it's not transparent, but it's at least one of the reasons. The program itself uses the unity3d engine along with some native dll calls to the relevant user32 apis to handle the transparency. I was able to get a copy of the relevant code (but not the whole application), of which I will attach. Since I can't get all of the code, I've been using an unity sample application to try to figure out some parts myself (the relevant code is here https://github.com/pheonise/Unity3D-Desktop-Overlay/blob/master/Assets/Scri…) This unity3d application works as expected on windows, but is not transparent via wine (as expected). When i comment the call to DwmExtendFrameIntoClientArea, then it its also no longer transparent on windows as well. It seems that if the sample application works, then I can make sure the dev applies to the same technique to the overlay application. Professional 2 crashes on startup due to a NULL pointer dereference. I've attached a backtrace, though in previous commits it used to crash in a different function. The backtrace was made from a build compiled from the master branch as of 2026-04-18 (which happens to be tagged wine-11.7). As mentioned, the culprit is as far as I can tell the change introduced in commit 6048ac5dfeb, but I'll admit that I don't know why those changes were made nor why they cause the problem. They absolutely seem related though. I am using a VKB Gladiator EVO joystick with 32 buttons and in most games (FS2004 for example) the assignment of game functions to joystick buttons is totally wrong now. It would be a very time-consuming task to reconfigure the mappings for every single game. In the video of this issue that I've attached you can see that when I'm using the knobs in the mixer and in the BPM value, the mouse cursor actually moves instead of staying still like it does on Windows and most of the times it escapes the window and goes into the panel, and this behavior can actually break the functionality of some knobs like the BPM one where I literally cannot use it. When the application starts up, it will check for various shared components, ending up complaining that Microsoft Report Viewer has to be installed despite already installed. Attached is the screenshot of the error. It says, "It's necessary to install an additional programed named Microsoft Report Viewer" ("มีความจำเป็นต้องติดตั้งโปรแกรมเสริมที่ชื่อว่า Microsoft Report Viewer"). Bug 58577 plays an important role on this. I actually would love to get my hands dirty, if not for 2 problems: 1. I don't actually have much time myself. 2. Many years ago, I disassembled a different component of Windows (related to MDM/management policy) in order to debug my graduating project. I forgot everything by now, and it's IMHO not related, but combined with 1. I think it's probably better to stay safe. (Can I explain some high-level idea? Will I run afoul of 2.?)
