[Bug 59745] New: Wine crashes when a custom window is created to show information
by WineHQ Bugzilla July 2, 2026

July 2, 2026

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59745 Bug ID: 59745 Summary: Wine crashes when a custom window is created to show information Product: Wine Version: 11.8 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs(a)list.winehq.org Reporter: matthias0178+wine(a)gmail.com Distribution: --- Created attachment 80922 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=80922 Source code of the test program I created a program using C and the Windows API. This program was designed to create and display a specific window containing help text rendered via GDI. As soon as the user pressed any key on the keyboard or clicked with the mouse, the special window was supposed to be destroyed and the application terminated. Since this program functioned flawlessly on Windows but crashed under Wine immediately after displaying and destroying the special window, I developed a small test program that demonstrates the bug. This test program logs to the command line what occurs when the same task is executed in a simplified manner. I have attached the source code for this tiny test program. You may copy, modify and distribute it without restrictions to the extent permitted by law. On the Debian 13 console, the console output is not the same as in the console of Windows 11. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. [Bug 53812] New: Text does not show in Some APPs with native wine7.19
by WineHQ Bugzilla July 2, 2026

https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=53812 Bug ID: 53812 Summary: Text does not show in Some APPs with native wine7.19 Product: Wine Version: 7.19 Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: blocker Priority: P2 Component: gdi32 Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org Reporter: 399989567(a)qq.com Distribution: --- Created attachment 73324 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=73324 how to reproduce problem I filed a bug(# Bug 53739) with the font display issue before, because I was doing some font replacements (seems to involve dwrite). This problem appears to be the same as the previous one, but it's not the same problem. This problem occurs in different sections of QQ, DingTalk, and corporate WeChat. For example, some fonts on the landing page of QQ are not displayed； some fonts are not displaye when sending a message on the meeting interface of corporate WeChat. Among them, the problem of QQ is the easiest to reproduce(even if you don't have an account, you can reproduce it), so I will use QQ to explain the problem below. 「Problem Description In general」—— use native unmodified wine In general, the font of QQ can be displayed normally on my virtual machine, but it cannot be displayed normally on my physical machine，with the same Language Environment and System installation scene > $ echo LANG = zh_CN.UTF-8 > System installation scene：debian-live-11.4.0-amd64-kde.iso > System installation scene download URL:https://drive.google.com/file/d/14FJVpGkLNTJrDlU9SQW38eSIFlr_qjUB/view?… 「The machine I use」 M1: "physical machine" debian-11.4.0-KDE M2: "virtual machine" debian-11.4.0-KDE 「 Problem Description 」 I just downloaded the source code of wine 7.19 and make it. I click to add an account, the font display of QQ fails on M1, but successed on M2. By use WINEDEBUG=+relay,I find when text show on M2, APPs called API:ScriptTextOut,and then text show successed. But on M1, APPs called API:ExtTextOutW, and then text show fails. I just started to suspect that QQ has different versions installed on different machines, so I packaged all the files of QQ installed on the virtual machine into a zip file, and then took this file to the physical machine to run, but the text still cannot be show on the physical machine. I don't know why QQ calls different APIs on the physical machine and the virtual machine to output text, so I'm asking for your help. What channel should I use to check my environment？nls?locale? 「Reproduce Problem」 The picture(how_to_..._proble,.png) shows the operation process QQ downloardURL:https://im.qq.com/download QQ Version:9.6.7 -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. [Bug 59550] New: Implement AppDefaults registry toggle for wcmd to sanitize forward slashes in execution paths (Resolves Unreal Engine update scripts)
by WineHQ Bugzilla July 1, 2026

July 1, 2026

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59550 Bug ID: 59550 Summary: Implement AppDefaults registry toggle for wcmd to sanitize forward slashes in execution paths (Resolves Unreal Engine update scripts) Product: Wine Version: 11.5 Hardware: arm OS: MacOS Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: cmd Assignee: wine-bugs(a)list.winehq.org Reporter: smcclenahan(a)gmail.com Created attachment 80605 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=80605 wcmdmain.c Registry Hook for CmdForgiveSlashes Currently, wcmd strictly parses forward slashes (/) as command switches. When modern cross-platform engines (specifically Unreal Engine 4/5, e.g., Borderlands 4) attempt to launch background update scripts via cmd.exe /c, they frequently pass un-sanitized, mixed-slash paths (e.g., C:/users/.../PersistentDownloadDir/GbxRelaunch.bat). Because wcmd evaluates the slash as an invalid switch (e.g., /users), the execution fails instantly with an unrecognized command error. This breaks automatic game restarts and hotfix pipelines for numerous titles. (See attached terminal_output.txt for the exact error). Proposed Solution: Introduce an opt-in registry toggle within the AppDefaults hive that allows wcmd to sanitize forward slashes to backslashes for specific calling executables before parsing. * Registry Key: HKCU\Software\Wine\AppDefaults\[CallingProcess.exe] * Proposed Value: "CmdForgiveSlashes"="1" (String or DWORD) * Behavior: When wcmd is spawned, it checks the AppDefaults of the parent process. If the flag is present, a lightweight sanitization routine converts / to \ in the execution buffer before the standard wcmd parsing logic takes over. Architectural Rationale & Preempting Regressions: * Zero Regression Blast Radius: By defaulting to strict legacy parsing and requiring an explicit AppDefaults override, there is zero risk to legacy enterprise scripts, background redistributables, or unrelated software within the same WINEPREFIX. The execution state remains entirely deterministic. * Avoiding Hardcoded Hacks: This prevents the need to continuously merge game-specific string exceptions into the core wcmdmain.c codebase as new games release. * Empowering Downstream Wrappers: Native Windows cmd.exe occasionally relies on undocumented, dynamic heuristics to successfully execute these mixed-slash paths. Perfectly cloning those undocumented heuristics in wcmd is dangerous for legacy stability. Exposing this registry hook gives downstream maintainers (like Proton and CrossOver) a safe, standardized way to configure the environment via their own application profiles without patching Wine's core C code. (Proof of concept patch attached as wcmd_forgive_slashes.patch) -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. The game starts fine on Wine 11.0, 11.5, 11.7, 11.9, and probably older versions as well. Suspected cause: If I am reading the git log correctly, Wine 11.10 defaulted to builtin Direct3D libraries, instead of using the native libraries. This revealed a deficiency in the Direct3D shader parser. The problem seems to be that the game uses the exponent notation for some floating-point literals, but the Wine's parser grammar does not accept that. Proposed solution: A one line change to dlls/d3dcompiler_43/asmshader.l , that adds support for the exponent notation, seems to solve the problem. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59949 Bug ID: 59949 Summary: wmvcore fails to allocate sample buffer (E_OUTOFMEMORY) in WOW64 mode, causing video playback to stop after a few seconds Product: Wine Version: 9.0 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: quartz Assignee: wine-bugs(a)list.winehq.org Reporter: skitz2307(a)gmail.com Distribution: --- Created attachment 81323 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=81323 Full Log File Summary: When running 32-bit games with PROTON_USE_WOW64=1, video playback stops after a few seconds. The demuxer reads and decodes frames correctly, but then wmvcore fails to allocate a buffer for the next sample with E_OUTOFMEMORY (0x8007000e), after which demuxer_destroy fails with Access Violation (0xc0000005). Environment: - OS: CachyOS (Arch-based Linux) - GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060, driver 610.43.2 - Proton version: GE-Proton 11-1 - Wine mode: WOW64 (PROTON_USE_WOW64=1) - Game: Resident Evil Revelations 2 (Steam App ID: 287290) - Game type: 32-bit DirectX 9, MT Framework engine Steps to reproduce: 1. Set launch options: PROTON_USE_WOW64=1 WINEDEBUG=+quartz PROTON_LOG=1 2. Launch Resident Evil Revelations 2 3. Start campaign mode 4. Wait for any cutscene to begin playback 5. Video plays for ~2 seconds then goes black (audio continues) Expected behavior: Video plays completely without interruption. Actual behavior: Video stops after a few seconds. Log shows the following sequence: 05cc:warn:quartz:winedmo_demuxer_read Reached end of media file on demuxer 0x7f99f47ecc40. 05cc:warn:quartz:winedmo_transform_drain Draining transform. 05c8:err:wmvcore:wm_reader_read_stream_sample Failed to allocate sample of 1382400 bytes, hr 0x8007000e. 05c8:warn:quartz:winedmo_demuxer_destroy demuxer_destroy failed, status 0xc0000005 Root cause analysis: wmvcore fails to allocate ~1.4MB buffer for an uncompressed video frame (1382400 bytes = 1280x720 RGBA frame) with E_OUTOFMEMORY. This only happens in WOW64 mode — without PROTON_USE_WOW64=1 video works but the game crashes due to a separate WOW64 assertion failure in the main process (also a WOW64-related issue in 32-bit games on RTX 50xx GPUs). Without WOW64 mode crash log shows: Unhandled exception: assertion failed in wow64 32-bit code (0xf7fd522c) warn:virtual:virtual_setup_exception exception outside of stack limits Additional notes: - PROTON_NVIDIA_LIBS_NO_32BIT=1 extends memory before crash from ~2GB to ~3GB but breaks video entirely - wmvcore=b,n override does not fix the issue - Problem is reproducible consistently -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
