Everything works well, I can launch missions/instant action battles, but when they end and the game normally would go to a debriefing screen, it crashes instead. With current new-WoW64 Wine + wined3d + proprietary NVIDIA, the game crashes while loading the first level. The crash happens with graphical details set to "Very Low" as well as with "Very High". The crash occurs with EGL and with GLX backends too. Reproduced with Wine-11.1, 11.7, 11.16, wine git 11.16-76-g3489c653109 NVIDIA drivers tested: 580.178.04, 595.91.07, 610.57.04. The crash does not occur with: -old-style WoW64 / multilib Wine -nouveau -DXVK d3d9.dll Immediately before the crash: err:opengl:create_buffer_storage vkAllocateMemory failed: -2 fixme:opengl:wow64_map_buffer GL_MAP_PERSISTENT_BIT not supported! So then I asked AI what the issue might be...and it came up with a workaround/diagnostic patch. My NVIDIA GPU has a 256 MiB BAR1 aperture. Vulkan exposes: memory type 5: heapIndex = 2 DEVICE_LOCAL | HOST_VISIBLE | HOST_COHERENT heap 2: size = ~246 MiB During reproduction: main menu: BAR1 Used = 65 MiB second intro video: BAR1 Used = 214 MiB at crash: BAR1 Used = 246 MiB At that exact point vkAllocateMemory() returns VK_ERROR_OUT_OF_DEVICE_MEMORY. As a diagnostic test I changed the default Vulkan memory type selection in create_buffer_storage() in dlls/opengl32/unix_wgl.c: - uint32_t desired_type = type_mask; + uint32_t desired_type = + type_mask & ~VK_MEMORY_PROPERTY_DEVICE_LOCAL_BIT; This makes Wine use the HOST_VISIBLE | HOST_COHERENT non-device-local memory type instead. The problem is probably that WebView2 tries to use the DirectComposition API on Windows 8.1 or newer. Message in the WebView2 debug log: DCompositionCreateDevice failed: Not implemented. (0x80004001) The attached WebView2 debug log was captured using the WebView2 logging functions, which can be enabled using the WEBVIEW2_ADDITIONAL_BROWSER_ARGUMENTS environment variable. However, compared to a native Windows environment (or not bridging the plugins), there is a problem when drawing the plugin UI. The plugin UI window itself is a borderless window that belongs to the bridge process, and is then set as a child of the actual plugin window that belongs to the OpenMPT process using SetParent(...). This works just fine on Windows, but in Wine, the child window remains completely black. If parts of the child window are redrawn by the bridged process, they become visible, but as soon as a redraw for the parent window is issued (e.g. by setting the focus to it), these areas become black again. Steps to reproduce: 1) Install OpenMPT. 2) Create a new module. 3) Open the plugin manager ("Select" button at the bottom of the created module's window) and add any VST plugin that provides its own UI (e.g. http://www.geocities.jp/daichi1969/softsynth/index.html#down) 4) Be sure the "Use Plugin Bridge" checkbox is checked (it is also fine if it is checked but greyed out) 5) Click "Put in FX01" to load the plugin. 6) Click the "Edit" button next to the "Select" button to open the plugin's UI. 7) The UI will be completely black, with child controls becoming occasionally visible if you click them. I'm attaching photos and a video so you can see exactly what's happening. I'm also attaching an archive containing part of the multisim file for testing. How to test: 1. Install vcrun2022 - winetricks vcrun2022. 2. Extract the archive TEST 3. In the TEST folder, run the file: SymbEdit.exe Visual issues appear in pop-up windows... The issues described are not affected by the system or the session. They are available in KDE and GNOME and (DISPLAY=wayland wine... multisim.exe) also.. The penultimate Git version prior to 11.15 ( wine-git-11.14.r136.g702e447-1-x86_64) fixed the high CPU usage in Multisim.
