Wine's odbc32 implementation has a hardcoded switch over known attribute IDs and returns SQL_ERROR for anything else, logging fixme:odbc:SQLSetConnectAttr unhandled attribute <N>. This breaks every modern SQL Server client built on Microsoft ODBC Driver 17/18, which routinely sets vendor-specific attributes: 1219 — SQL_COPT_SS_ENCRYPT 1224 — SQL_COPT_SS_TRUST_SERVER_CERTIFICATE 1226 — SQL_COPT_SS_APPLICATION_INTENT 1227 — SQL_COPT_SS_MULTI_SUBNET_FAILOVER Steps to reproduce Install Microsoft ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server (msodbcsql.msi) into a Wine prefix. Run any application that calls SQLSetConnectAttr with SQL_COPT_SS_TRUST_SERVER_CERTIFICATE (1224) on the connection handle before SQLConnect. Concrete reproducer: GMC PaDok 5.0.5.0 client installer (setup_gmcpadok_5050.exe) pointed at any SQL Server with a default self-signed TLS cert. Expected SQLSetConnectAttr forwards the call to the driver's SQLSetConnectAttr, which honors it (the MS driver does). SQLConnect then proceeds with the trust-cert flag set. Actual SQLSetConnectAttr returns SQL_ERROR (-1). SQLGetDiagRec returns SQL_NO_DATA (Wine populated no diagnostic record). The application gives up before any TCP connection to SQL Server is attempted. Attributes < 1000 that are not in the manager's known set may still be rejected with SQL_ERROR, but with a populated diagnostic record per spec. Workarounds None known. WINEDLLOVERRIDES can replace odbc32 itself, but Microsoft ODBC Driver 17 doesn't ship its own driver manager. Installing native macOS unixODBC + Microsoft's native msodbcsql17 and putting Wine into Unix-proxy mode (libodbc.dylib) is untested and would also still hit downstream FILESTREAM-IOCTL issues unrelated to this bug. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. There is no indication of the issue in the normal terminal output, but the error dialog and log files in the game directory says: --- error dialog quote --- General protection fault! Script call stack: Function APBUserInterface.cUIDataStore_Chat|OnPlayerProfileChanged --- end error dialog quote --- Searching the web for that function I found a trace of a topic on the developer's forum about that issue. Then the executable plays the .mpg files but without video, i only could hear the sound when the INTRO.MPG finished playing i could enter the main menu, i could see images, screenshots etc but i couldnt play any .mpg movie. When trying to interact with the black window then it jumps to the right corner of the screen, unless the error message is touched again. However i do suspect imm32 as in the wine debug logs there is mentioned: fixme:imm:ime_ui_window_proc hwnd 000A00C0, himc 000900C2, msg WM_IME_CONTROL, wparam IMC_CLOSESTATUSWINDOW, lparam 0 stub! With that hint i did did override imm32.dll with an native DLL and now the game works. Two related but distinct symptoms are reproducible, both tied to the same window/owner relationship at the moment a new top-level dialog appears: 1. Clicks landing within the dialog's screen bounds are sometimes dispatched to a control on the **owner window underneath** instead of the dialog, even though the dialog is the window actually visible/topmost on screen. 2. When the click **does** reach the correct control (e.g. a "Close" button on the dialog), the button goes through a fully normal-looking `WM_LBUTTONDOWN → WM_SETFOCUS → WM_LBUTTONUP → WM_CAPTURECHANGED` sequence, but never sends the resulting `WM_COMMAND` (`BN_CLICKED`) notification to the dialog, so the click has no effect. Activating the same button via keyboard (Space bar) works every time, since that path skips whatever position check is failing on mouse-up. A user-discovered workaround: briefly "shading" and un-shading the dialog window (or resizing/maximizing-then-restoring the owner window) temporarily restores correct click behavior, consistent with a stale cached window rect/z-order being recalculated on any geometry-change event. Specifically, the program in question is Duplicate Cleaner Free 3.2.7 (DigitalVolcano Software) — a .NET WinForms application (owner-drawn buttons via `WM_DRAWITEM`, runs under wine-mono). Windows behaves differently; from testing, the accepted socket is marked inheritable if and only if the listener socket was inheritable during the original WSASocket() invocation [2]. This affects e.g. all Rust programs due to a combination of two factors: Rust spawns child processes without an inheritance allowlist, and it doesn't explicitly make accepted sockets non-inheritable because SetHandleInformation doesn't work in UWP apps, and normally they're already non-inheritable so there's no need to do it anyway. Security implications aside, this can at least keep connections open for longer than intended in some programs, though I didn't look for any real-world victims. I'm not sure how comfortable Wine is with replicating undocumented behavior, but I'd assume in this case it's not baseless because Rust already implicitly makes this assumption. This is roughly equivalent to getsockopt(SO_PEERCRED) on Unix. It'd be nice to see this ioctl implemented.
