[Bug 59668] New: WCS-7300-U installs but crashes upon startup
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59668 Bug ID: 59668 Summary: WCS-7300-U installs but crashes upon startup Product: Wine Version: 9.0 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@list.winehq.org Reporter: jimtinlin@gmail.com Distribution: --- Created attachment 80758 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=80758 trace file provided by wine after program crashes WCS-7300-U is programming software for the ICOM 7300 radio. The label says it works in Windows 8/8.1 or 10 (32 or 64 bit), Win 11. I tried using Windows 10, 11 in winecfg as well as 8.1, with no change in process. I contacted RTsystems troubleshooting for help and they said they don't provide help with Linux installation. Thanks! -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59668 --- Comment #3 from Jim Tinlin <jimtinlin@gmail.com> --- Since I was unsuccessful in running the radio programming software in the Wine environment after replacing v9.0 with v11.0 of Wine, I decided to reinstall the Linux Mint system as a "new" installation and the results were similar. I deleted my entire system and started with a fresh install of Linux Mint V22.3. I then installed Wine v11.0 based on the attached directions I obtained on-line, then completed the configuration (I selected Windows 10 as the operating system, since the radio programming software was working well in that version of Windows). I was able to successfully install the WCS-7300-U software, where it prompted me to enter the serial number and email so it could be registered on-line. However, when I went to run the software I once again received an error message and crash report (attachment to follow). Also soon to be attached are 2 files I documented during the Wine v11.0 installation process (including the process I followed to install Wine v11.0), hopefully it can provide you with sufficient information to speculate on the problem. I appreciate any suggestions or pointers you may have to resolve my issue. Wine 9.0 is a fairly old version. Can you please retest with at least the latest Wine 11.0 stable version or Wine 11.7 development version?
Also, is there an available public download for the WCS-7300-U software?
This is software that I purchased from the mfr (RT Systems) that is specifically for programming the ICOM 7300 radio. You can install/run it but it will ask for the registration key to continue with the program. I was able to get this far, registering the software, but when I attempt to run the programming software it appears to initialize and then throws up a generic error message (Attempted an Unsupported Operation) and stops there. When I click "OK" I get the WINE debugger saying: "The program RadioEngine_V5.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." The radio programmer window stays open with a "IC 7300 Programmer is not responding" with a Wait / Force Quit option that shuts down the application. Hope this helps, let me know if you need additional info - I did upload attachments of back traces and console responses to see if that would be useful. Thanks in advance! -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Wine 9.0 is a fairly old version. Can you please retest with at least the latest Wine 11.0 stable version or Wine 11.7 development version?
Also, is there an available public download for the WCS-7300-U software?
By the way, I did make a clean install of Mint Linux and Wine v11.0 (see my multiple comments/attachments), although the linux system responded as I would expect during installation the programming software is still not working correctly. Thanks again! -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59668 --- Comment #12 from Andrew Nguyen <arethusa26@gmail.com> --- I was able to obtain a copy of the software you're trying to run. From your debug output, I believe this is the issue that is causing the crash: 01bc:err:ole:com_get_class_object class {de52502e-f837-492b-ae14-a182531afaf4} not registered 01bc:err:ole:com_get_class_object class {de52502e-f837-492b-ae14-a182531afaf4} not registered 01bc:err:ole:com_get_class_object no class object {de52502e-f837-492b-ae14-a182531afaf4} could be created for context 0x3 I have determined that this is because the installer deploys an ActiveX control in the path "C:\windows\syswow64\FPSPRU80.ocx" but it fails to successfully register the control during the installation due to the missing redistributable library mfc42u.dll, which is not provided by Wine. With an existing installation of the software, if I install mfc42u.dll using the winetricks script (https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/wikis/Winetricks) by running the command "sh winetricks mfc42" and then register the control with the command "wine regsvr32 'C:\windows\syswow64\FPSPRU80.ocx'", I am able to successfully start the software. This is the case whether I am using Wine 11.0 or Wine 11.7. Please check if the information I provided also allows you to successfully start the software. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. I was able to obtain a copy of the software you're trying to run. From your debug output, I believe this is the issue that is causing the crash:
01bc:err:ole:com_get_class_object class {de52502e-f837-492b-ae14-a182531afaf4} not registered 01bc:err:ole:com_get_class_object class {de52502e-f837-492b-ae14-a182531afaf4} not registered 01bc:err:ole:com_get_class_object no class object {de52502e-f837-492b-ae14-a182531afaf4} could be created for context 0x3
I have determined that this is because the installer deploys an ActiveX control in the path "C:\windows\syswow64\FPSPRU80.ocx" but it fails to successfully register the control during the installation due to the missing redistributable library mfc42u.dll, which is not provided by Wine.
That did the trick, thanks so much for your assistance! Since it uses a serial port to communicate with the radio I did have to create a COM1 string value in 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wine\Ports' and assigned it to the serial port (/dev/ttyUSB0), then I was successful in communicating with the radio.
