Parsing output of wine's crash dump

I've changed how the changes from the previous day's valgrind logs are displayed. The diffs are now named diff-foo rather than foo-diff, e.g. http://kegel.com/wine/valgrind/logs/2009-10-23-14.09/diff-kernel32_virtual.… are the new bits of http://kegel.com/wine/valgrind/logs/2009-10-23-14.09/vg-kernel32_virtual.txt I also filter them more heavily, and don't create a file if there are no differences. This makes it a lot easier to see where the changes are, you only have to scan the first few files in http://kegel.com/wine/valgrind/logs/2009-10-23-14.09 and they're less noisy than they used to be. It'd be easier, and I'd have better filtering, if there were some text marker at the end of the crash dump. Right now I use while (<STDIN>) { if ($skip) { $skip=0 if (/Threads:/); } if (!$skip) { $skip=1 if (/Register dump:/); print; } } to skip backtraces, but that leaves the thread info there, and diffs in that aren't very interesting.cd I see that "Register dump:" is printed in winedbg/be_i386.c; where is "Threads:" printed? (Not mdmp_dump(), that's something else, I think...)

http://kegel.com/wine/valgrind/logs/ is updated as usual, this time with all of the log files I used to generate. For instance, http://kegel.com/wine/valgrind/logs/2009-10-22-19.57-summary.txt is a diff of just the first line of each error, to give you a quick idea what changed. (The logs are pretty noisy - if there's a crash that happens every other day, you'll see lots of churn from all the warnings that follow, or would follow, the crash.) listview seems genuinely improved: http://kegel.com/wine/valgrind/logs/2009-10-22-19.57/vg-comctl32_listview.t… is a lot shorter than http://kegel.com/wine/valgrind/logs/2009-10-21-19.42/vg-comctl32_listview.t… The script also shows a diff from the previous day for each test's log, e.g. http://kegel.com/wine/valgrind/logs/2009-10-22-19.57/vg-comctl32_listview-d…

Hello Alexandre, It's a long time now since my last contrib to the wine project (1997), and I try to run a proprietary W31/W95 program without any success : It fails immediately with : wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0xffffffff at address 0x124f:0x000090f7 (thread 001c), starting debugger... At that stage I do not have any window of the windows program, only a window from wine stating : The program winevdm.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. I added suppressions for a few frequent spurious warnings and reran, the updated results are in http://kegel.com/wine/valgrind/logs/2009-10-21-19.42.log and broken out by test in http://kegel.com/wine/valgrind/logs/2009-10-21-19.42/ Please send me the suppression record for any warnings that are spurious or benign, and mention the reason for each. There's also an overall diff from the previous run, http://kegel.com/wine/valgrind/logs/2009-10-21-19.42-diff.txt but reading it is kind of a slog. A few suggestions for people who would like to help fix these warnings: 1) Don't fix any error you don't fully understand. Many of these warnings are easy, but some are subtle. When in doubt, move on to an easier one. 2) Fixing leaks in test code is usually pretty safe, and it's easier to get Alexandre to accept simple patches to tests, so start with those if you don't have many patches under your belt. 3) the file http://kegel.com/wine/valgrind/logs/2009-10-21-19.42-count-by-file.txt lists how many warnings are in each test; pick one with just one error, and fix it. Voila, one less failing test! 4) the file http://kegel.com/wine/valgrind/logs/2009-10-21-19.42-count-by-error.txt lists how many of each warning there are. Pick a warning that happens a lot, and fix it. Voila, lots fewer warnings! 5) if you know a warning is spurious, send it to me along with the mangled version below it (that's in suppression format) and why it's spurious or benign or not our fault, and I'll add it to http://code.google.com/p/winezeug/source/browse/trunk/valgrind/valgrind-sup… Have fun, be careful, and thanks to everyone who's pitching in! - Dan
