Frustration

Hi, I'm triing to find an error to work on. I was happy that so many people gave me hints on what should be fix. I tried to understand things but, it seems that this is to big thing for me at this moment. Could somebody assign me a little task in a bigger which (s)he is working on? And explain details on that. It seems that I need a "virtual" boss while learning wine hacking. Attila

This is really not an issue, as the user can download it from M$. You could use the example of the NTFS captive driver, just ask the user if he has a windows license, if he answers yes, download the setup from the M$ web site, and if the user doesn't have a license it's his problem. Also M$ can't claim the download is illegal, as they host it. Ivan.

Useful document on critical sections

Hi, I found this article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdnmag/issues/03/12/CriticalSections/ There are two points of interest that we don't seem to cover: * RtlpWaitForCriticalSection will NOT block if the process is shutting down and the wait is on the loader lock. I've seen a fair few times when an app deadlocks on shutdown on the loader lock - could this be the cause? * The loader lock is stored at offset 0xA0 in the PEB. I doubt this is important, but now the info is published murphies law says one day an app will try and get to it directly. thanks -mike

More exec-shield problems

Hi, When /proc/sys/kernel/exec-shield is set to 1, the StarCraft installer crashes. (it doesn't matter what the -randomize option is set to). It appears then that exec-shield screws things up in more subtle ways than just stopping us mapping the binary. The details of the crash are that the game allocates some memory using RtlAllocateHeap, uses MultiByteToWideStr to fill it, then calls GetStringTypeW on the memory, which crashes with an access violation. There is a way to link wine such that execshield will be switched off, some linker flag. Does anybody know how to integrate that with the Wine build system? thanks -mike

newbie wine developer question

Hi, Since I'm new in developing wine please forgive me if I ask a question that is answered earlier (I tried to search an answer for my questions, but I did not found.) 1) Should I report fixme's in bugzilla? (I guess, not, but I'm not sure). 2) I would like to fix some fixme (which I can reproduce), but I don't understand a lot of thins. (I'm new to wine, but not new to C). Problems building wine

This is with both CVS head from today and with the 2003-12-12 snapshot tarball. Anyone got any ideas? iain

wine-20031212 defaults to Thai ui?!

This is hilarious... I just built wine-20031212 from source (using tools/wineinstall), and... all the menus are in Thai. Even if I run winefile, or a real copy of notepad.exe. Even if I set LANG=C before running. WTF? - Dan
