Something of note is that the alpha multiplier will also affect all subsurfaces including subsurfaces that are supposed to be popups (unmanaged with an owner instead of it being a child window). But this issue will go away once xdg-popup is implemented which I have just is pending an MR. It doesn't affect subsurfaces.
