I have run into a problem in changing the gamma ramp due to the size of my gamma ramp on my video card. There is a check in xvidmode.c which disables the get/setgammaramp functions if the size of the gamma ramp reported by the hardware is not 256. My gamma ramp size is 1024. I have made it work by modifying (defeating) the check and interpolating the 256 size gamma ramp from the Windows program to the larger size 1024 gamma ramp in get/setgammaramp functions. Should learn how to submit my ham fisted modification? Sound doesn't appear to go through the daemon, even when using esddsp. Illustrative example: Say I've got xmms running with the ESD output plugin. Say that I want to start up winamp (work with me here). I've got something playing on xmms, thus using the daemon, when the window for Winamp finally pops up. When I try to start something playing with Winamp thereafter, whether something else is playing or not, I get errors saying that the sound device is not openable. Okay, repeat that earlier setup, except this time I have nothing playing on xmms. I try playing something on Winamp, and it's going great. However, now nothing else that calls esd (esdplay, the xmms esd plugin, etc) will output sound until after I exit Wine, at which case it'll all come out at once. Short version: esddsp isn't a fix, it's a (poor) workaround. (I'd happily contribute a real driver if I knew the first thing about programming Wine...) Up to wine through around November I was running CDex with no problems. I recently updated to the 20030115 and now when i try and rip my CD's I get errors with 't?' everywhere(like in the file name trying to be written) and weird tab names in the Settings window. I also get 't?' stuff in the cdex.ini file. is this a known problem, does it happen in other apps? thanks! -- Steven Adeff ADEFFS(a)RPI.EDU Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

When I tried to configure wine recently, I was interested in having IPX support. However, configure was returning a negative result when it checked for the necessary headers. After confirming that both netipx/ipx.h and linux/ipx.h were present, I examined the autoconf macro more closely. It was then I discovered that it was omitting a necessary header for IPX support on linux systems: sys/socket.h. This is because the header is guarded by a test against the existance of sys/socket.h. The problem with the current wine configure.ac is that AC_CHECK_HEADERS([sys/socket.h]) is placed *after* the check for IPX support. This is most unfortunate and will result in false negatives previously described. The solution is to place AC_CHECK_HEADERS([sys/socket.h]) right after AC_CHECK_LIB(mmap,mmap). This ensures that it will be properly defined in the later test macros. After painstakingly recompiling wine (again) with of course ./configure --enable-opengl, the same issues still resided so it wasnt a broken compile/download. Ive fiddled around with Wine, since with Half-Life I had to work around dsound by making an empty file and having it "native, builtin". For that scenario it worked. Tribes on the other hand seems picky. After finding out thats a stupid idea doing the same with dinput.dll, i got a friend to send me dinput.dll and dinput.vxd from directx 8. Suffice to say that didnt fix it (mouse just didnt work at all, little response from keyboard). I have serious beliefs it has to do something with either my kernel or dinput.dll.so. I am not going to let this one die easily, Tribes is too addicting to drop it like other games. I'll keep you posted if I make any progress. By the way, the file as you requested (sorta) has been attached. If you really want that +relay,+dinput, could you write down the command to send winedbg so it would write directly to a file instead of to the konsole (> file doesnt seem to be working), it really slows down my 1.8ghz machine to a snails crawl.
