Summary: StarCraft updater crashes at dialog.c:639 or complains
about sharing violation
Product: Wine
Version: 20040505
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-user
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: griffon+winehq(a)snurgle.org
I didn't see anything that looked similar in the bugs database. Trying to run
the Broodwar or Starcraft update programs leads to either an error about
Starcraft/bnupdate.exe being in use or a crash at dialog.c:639 because
DIALOG_get_info returned NULL, which looks offhand like WIN_GetWindowLong being
unhappy with one of its arguments. I'm not running with any Windows DLLs
(although I have Win98 lying around somewhere so I could try some if that would
be helpful). I tried various Version settings to no effect (win95, win98,
winnt, winxp). I'm not familiar at all with Windows programming, but am a C
programmer by profession, so I could do some debugging with a bit of direction
(or would be happy to let someone log in to debug). The behavior of whether it
crashes or gets an error seems to depend a bit on whether I'm running it as root
or a normal user. When it doesn't crash and I run with WINEDEBUG=warn+all,
here's some selected output, including the last few lines (the missing lines are
justmore warnings about not being able to find DLLs):

Summary: Problems with trees selection of long paths
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
URL: http://daedalus.boob.co.uk/
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-files
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: hatky(a)users.sf.net
Deadalus is a FREE n64 emulator that I have seen this problem with:
when you start the program it opens a tree that asks you ro chose a rom dir
create in your home a long dir (40-50 char dirs have been tested) like
mkdir ~\1234567890123456789012345678901234567890
then run wine daedalus and chose that dir:
f:\1234567890123456789012345678901234567890
p.s. if you have not crashed due to shorter dir select view->directory to repeat
the test
p.s.s as long dirs crash so do long paths with several directories in them
you will get a crash like this:
Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00390040 in 32-bit code
(0x40d32f71).
In 32-bit mode.

Wine still cannot run photoshop.
The only thing that is shown is a small dialog box with the word "success" in
it, and an okay button.
I am using (right now) 20040505 compiled with a normal ./tools/wineinstall... my
config file is setup properly.
I have been unable to get photoshop running in any of the 2004 releases, and
this needs Immediate attention.
This is the output from the console window (all this is before the success
window pops up)

Everything was fine until I entered the game.
When I did so, I totally lost control of my computer. Neither keyboard nor mouse
responded, so all I could do was to turn the power off.
I'm using Fedora Core 1 on a PIII 1 GHz, 512 MB... Keyboard and mouse: Logitech

I was beggining to wonder if it was just me or something...
As I have also had the same problems with serial related term programs,
including Hyperterm, TerraTerm and others.
They both exhibit the same problem, DATA seems to go OUT,
but never seems to come IN.
I wonder if any developers are working on it, or are even aware of it,
I guess people don't use serial ports much anymore.
It appear to be a fundamental problem in the serial/file code, relating
to the overlapped thing. Obviously, I don't know much about it, but
there is definitely something wrong.
Other than this problem, I have found Wine to be really excellent,
thanks and keep up the great work...

ofn.Flags = OFN_ALLOWMULTISELECT | OFN_HIDEREADONLY | OFN_FILEMUSTEXIST |
OFN_EXPLORER ;

under Windows. Under Wine, I can select the files, but then it does nothing with
them. It acts as though nothing was selected... not even one file.

That is not a problem. I am experiencing problems with wine under FreeBSD
when trying to use the network, but I believe it is a problem in FreeBSD, not
wine. The particular error I get is:
Fatal error 'Uninitialized mutex in pthread_mutex_trylock_basic' at line 474
in file /usr/src/lib/libpthread/thread/thr_mutex.c (errno = 0)
But networking fails with wine regardless of what thread library I use. This
is under -CURRENT and wine from CVS about a week old.

Summary: winealsa + dsound broken since CVS 20040426
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-multimedia
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: sam(a)malfunction.screaming.net
Many - or all; I haven't found any exceptions to this yet - applications cease playing audio via DirectSound after a small fraction of a second, due to this change in dlls/winmm/winealsa/audio.c:
if ( dwFlags & WAVE_DIRECTSOUND )
flags |= SND_PCM_ASYNC;
- if ( (err = snd_pcm_open(&pcm, wwo->device, SND_PCM_STREAM_PLAYBACK, dwFlags)) < 0)
+ if ( (err = snd_pcm_open(&pcm, wwo->device, SND_PCM_STREAM_PLAYBACK, flags)) < 0)
Removing the SND_PCM_ASYNC flag restores correct behaviour and... hopefully isn't harmful; a proper understanding of the issue may yield a better fix.
Presumably few people are experiencing this, or most ALSA users use wineoss, as there seems to be little hint of the problem anywhere I have checked. Nonetheless, it happens here with the snd-emu10k1 driver under both ALSA 0.9.8 and 1.0.4, which would seem to render it unlikely to be an ALSA bug.
Running the dsound interactive tests demonstrates the problem (unless the tone duration is increased somewhat, in which case they function are expected), as does Winamp's DirectSound output plugin, at least in version 2.91.
