Couly you create a trace file by running:
WINEDEBUG="+wave,+dsound,+dsound3d" wine yourprogram.exe >& trace
where yourprogram.exe is your program and post the trace file.
Did the program ever produce sound? Did the program stop working after
upgrading your os?

I tried the patch. It does allow the RollerCoaster Tycoon get futher than
before using the cvs wine (as on 5 June 2004). It succeeds in copying all the
files needed, but dies when trying to create shortcut icons.
The notes about how SHNotifyCopyFileW() is meant to work are correct and I
recommend that this patch is merged into wine.

The patch with bug #1954 does help to some extent in allowing wine to install RCT.

Summary: Soldier of Fortune and Soldier of Fortune II have no
sound
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-multimedia
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: brettholcomb(a)charter.net
Both these games run under Wine CVS (latest try was 6/5/2004) but have no wound
with wineoss driver. With winealsa driver all you get is pops and clicks.
The game was started from a terminal window with wine sof.exe or wine sof2.exe
while in the game's home directory. I did notice that if I alt-tab while in the
game and select the terminal window the game was started in I could hear noise.
These have not worked with wine since at least January.

Okay, I did some checking. I mv'd my .wine directory and let wine create a new
one. I updated my drives, deleted the dosdevices directory and restarted wine
and created the registry and dosdevices entry.
I found that I have either define a desktop size or set Managed=N with no desktop.
I did notice the following:
1. Desktop=1024x764 doesn't seem to work. Wine stays at 800x600. I run xfce
4.05 and it runs at 1024x768. Initially HL comes up with a large window but the
menu window is a small console window. Is this due to the game or Wine?

Still broken as of CVS 6/5/2004. Running wine hl.exe -console brings up the
menu. When an item such as load game is clicked on the screen freezes and will
not respond to any commands. Ctl-C will kill it.
