Somehow this must be a problem with your setup, as this has not been reported by
others. If the problem is still present please reopen this bug

I tried to re-install wine but the problem remains.
on http://www.mcnabbs.org/andrew/linux/paf/ there is:
Problems Running the PAF Installer
If you have weird problems, such as an "error installing iKernel.exe"
try some of the following tricks which have worked for some other people
(and let me know which worked):
* Remove any Wine config files (some settings from an older version
of Wine might conflict with the newer version).
* Have |winesetup| or |winesetuptk| setup the default configuration.
* Run |regedit-wine /usr/lib/wine/.data/winedefault.reg|.
it seems like my problem, I would like to use regedit-wine
|/usr/lib/wine/.data/winedefault.reg|
but I cannot find regedit-wine in my installation.

v1.09 of the game launches secondary process of Diablo.exe and it detaches from
its parent terminal (let me say so). Once game is launched, you see its
messages in the terminal, but you can run another programs and cannot kill it
with Ctrl-C. Is your version exactly v1.09 ? I am very interested in this
possible difference.
On the offtopic: I am very curious - what is happening, when you launch 'wine
Diablo.exe' in 8-bit mode using nvidias native drivers. If answer will be more
of an offtopic, please write me an e-mail message. Thanks. :)

Thanks Saulius, but my 8-bit problem has nothing to do Wine but Xorg. I'd have
to rewrite the config and probably reboot to get rid of the nvidia binaries to
test it. But this is off-topic.
I forgot to mention that my Diablo is v1.09, originally installed and updated
with Wine, and no Windows anywhere.
I have not been able to force it to draw anything while in "black screen", I
cannot confirm that behaviour.
