I concluded It must be DirectDraw, because I can't tell any visual Difference or a Difference in Speed independent of the Graphics Driver choice( Direct Draw HAL or User/GDI ). Max Payne2 at least reports it as Direct3D HAL , which is a bit clearer. Anyway, as most Open Source project, refactoring is often done in a more drastic way than in commercial projects (i.e. 'legacy' code is removed even if it breaks things). This for two reasons: a cleaner code baseline and to provide motivation for peole to fix the issues (otherwise the legacy code would remain in the tree for ages). And as this GL provlem is present in the tree for months now, it seems that nobody is really motivated to fix it. I tried with my copy and while I can only select between User and HAL (both the same actually) the game is still 3D accelerated. So could you try playing the game and see if it works and close the bug if yes ? At least I can't explain why it does EM_STREAMOUT on some subset of the text? However, the bug itself is related to something that the control does (or does not) related to EM_EXGETSEL in 1.0 emulation mode.
