this error doesn't happen any more with latest wine version. Steaminstaller has
some other issues, but this one (not updating after 26%) is fixed.Regards

I really have to agree with Phil Stopford. This bug is at least a major one,
if not a blocker, I would even say it's not very wise to release Wine 0.9
without a fix for this issue. It affects many apps, special ones as well as
common stuff - many of which worked to a certain degree in the past:
- Newtek Lightwave
- Luxology Modo
- DAZ|Studio
- Eyeon Digital Fusion
- Autodesk Autocad
- Autodesk 3D Studio
- Curious Labs Poser
And pretty much every single app with embedded 3D viewports (which basically
means pretty much every CAD, compositing and 3D app, as well as most level
editors for games, and several OpenGL accellerated drawing/ imaging apps).
I think this is even more important if you consider that there are no Linux
equivalents for most of the affected apps (contrary to many apps the Wine
project seems to focus on: Office, Photoshop, mostly generic stuff), or they
require to much training to simply switch to a different application with
native Linux support.

Summary: Kid Pix Deluxe 3 installer text clipped
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
URL: http://broderbund.com
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
To reproduce: buy a copy of Kid Pix Deluxe 3
(list price $20, but you can get it for $2 at
http://www.shop.com/op/aprod-p18756232?sourceid=3 or $5 at
http://www.surpluscdrom.com/seansky82aw-store/kidpixdeluxe3.html)
or borrow one from your neighbor's kid :-)
Run winecfg and tell it to act like win98
(or you won't be able to start the installer).
Run the installer under a fresh copy of Wine.
Note that any installer screen that asks you
to enter data renders poorly, with lots of clipped
and/or missing text. That's the bug; it's bad enough
that it interferes a bit with even the determined user.

Probably a problem with your freetype package. As i've seen noone else reporting
this error , i guess it's a problem on your computer and not a bug in wine. If
you still encounter this problem with the latest wine version, you can reopen
this bug

ASIO is a driver interface for pro-audio apps developed by Steinberg. It's
somewhat similar to our beloved Jack sound server, but not as advanced.
Anyway, I added the URL to the Steinberg ASIO SDK (for drivers and client
apps), hope this helps.

Closing bug...please file separate bugs for each problem from now on. The
original bug's theme was to get HL2 to run (which it should...if I could get
Steam to cooperate). Speed issues are a feature request, not a bug..

Run winecfg and tell it to act like win98

Run the installer under a fresh copy of Wine.
When it asks you to register, click 'register later'.
You'll have to click and enter data past several
poorly rendered screens, but amazingly, installation
seems to complete properly.
Unfortunately, trying to start the product itself
fails:
[dank@localhost Kid Pix Deluxe 3]$ ~/wine/wine KPD3.exe

Try to run the installer under a fresh copy of Wine.
It will refuse to run, saying
"SETUP32
Your system does not meet the minimum system
requirements. Windows NT 4.0 requires Service Pack
3 to run this product."
An easy workaround is to run winecfg and tell it to
act like win98, but we should not require that workaround.

what is ASIO?
do you have documentation pointers?
I think we should not run ASIO drivers, but support ASIO from apps using the
normal UNIX mechanisms.
