Hi, trying the demo, and after the intro ends (which is with current cvs either
a black screen or you could watch the intro using the hack described in bug
3653; intro takes about 2 minutes to end) it pops up a message box saying the
sound device is used by another application(which it isn't...) I tried ,using
winecfg ,about every audio configuration there is, but the error remains. Here's
the last output from running with Alsa-emulation:
(tons of these:)
fixme:dsound:DSOUND_MixOne problem with underrun detection (mixlen=2840 <
primary_done=2844)
(PS this could be due to my crappy sound card so would be great if someone could
confirm, or even better, not confirm this bug)

Powerbuilder is a big "kitchen-sink" sort of application
with six subinstallers. To install it, you have to first
install MDAC 2.6 or higher. I installed MDAC 2.7sp1,
since I have luck installing that into an empty
wine directory. Because of bug 3636, I use a script
to unpack all the registered CABs the MDAC installer
installs but doesn't unpack; I'll include the script I use.
To reproduce this,
register for the Powerbuilder 10 trial at sybase.com,
download and unzip all five or six zipfiles,
blow away ~/.wine,
install mdac 2.7sp1,
and run the 'common installer', PB10Eval/PowerBuilder/setup.exe
There will be ten or so little warning dialog boxes
complaining about DLLs not being able to register
themselves, but that doesn't seem to be a huge issue.
The real problem seems to be that the installer
gets into a loop or locks up after about the fourth
subinstaller.
Now, I don't know how many people will need to
install PowerBuilder under Wine, but it's a nice
test of whether wine can handle a complicated
database-ish installer.

Yes, testing of demo version would be greatly appreciated, Andreas. For me it
runs nice too. The only strange thing is e2_d3d8_driver_mfc.dll loading, which
makes some long delays during the process final initialization stage. See my
log below.

Well, this issue needs more debugging still. I have to get my

costing too much time (no offence to you Philip). I think I'll
submit this patch as is since it already fixes the Office 97 and

I guess your Wine can be built with trace messages disabled. This can be done
by using apropriate ./configure param:
$ /usr/src/wine-cvs/wine/configure --help | grep -iC1 trace
| --disable-debug compile out all debugging messages
| --disable-trace compile out TRACE messages
| --enable-win64 build a Win64 emulator on AMD64 (won't run Win32
Are you sure this wasn't a case with your box, Willie?

I am using autofs (kernel automounter) to automatically mount and unmount my cds
and network shares. I added such an automatically mounted dir to wine as a drive
(/misc/cdrw_dvdrom). The problem now arises wehn I use an open dialog: It takes
nearly 0.5 seconds for each directory (icon) to appear (files are not a
problem). I found out, by inserting a cd the problem vanishes. So it seems wine
constantly wants to access above automoubnted dir, which fails if no cd is in
the drive. I think constanly trying to access the drive (even if I didn't want
it) isn't what wine shoould do. If wine would try this only if I explicitly
selected the cd-rom, then the problem reported wouldn't be there.

I just tried running this program with wine from cvs
built on Fedora Core 3, and it worked fine.
(I verified that the vbrun300.dll it unpacked was
good enough to run the open source vb3 app
http://neil.fraser.name/software/recog).
Can you try building wine from cvs to see if that
makes the problem go away? If so, maybe it's a problem
with how the RPMs were built (seems unlikely).
If not, then perhaps it's a problem with Wine built with gcc-4.0.
