Where does D: point to in your filesystem? D: is pointed to my floppy
/media/floppy and following the steps worked fine for me. I also tried with
other virtual drives and it worked ok.

There were a lot more of them since someone moved around the docs. I sent a
second patch that fix all the remaining dead links.
Btw the link reported here has been fixed by my first patch so this bug is closed.
Thanks for reporting.

Tested this with v0.9; I presume it's still the case with CVS version.
Indeed a problem in comctl code; using custom win32 comctl fixes the problem.
However it has some side-effects (Win98 mode with comctl32 (native) (size
569616, File Version 5.81.4704.1100):
1. The opendialog has ugly black-backgrounded icons
2. When I hover over an item that doesn't fit, I get a tooltip, but after that I
cannot click on the item anymore, the tooltip 'remains in front of it'
3. There is no tooltip for the status bars (channel + bottom (filelist)).

This is intentional. You should not create drives without path. The timing is

Immediately upon deletion of the last character in the "path" text box under the

If the entirety of the text within the text box is selected and deleted, the
same thing happens.

Summary: WineD3D lighting problem in halflife2
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: wine-directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: thunderbird2k(a)gmx.net
Halflife2 shows a strange lighting problem which is illustrated in the
screenshots below.
http://roderick.student.utwente.nl/hl2-good.pnghttp://roderick.student.utwente.nl/hl2-bad.png
For instance you enter a room then the object looks normal and then
when you get 'close' to it, the lighting disappears. Tried looking at all the
fixmes but it are way too many to tell something usefull. if needed I could
provide the info but perhaps it is fixable without.
Regards,
Roderick

I checked again with 20050930 and the problem is still there in unmodified form.
As soon as the game tries to reinit its video subsystem, it fails.
Regarding more information: please let me know what you need. All I can tell you
is when and how it fails, the actual messages of the game (or the debug output I
tried so far) don't give any more clues either. I tried WINEDEBUG=+opengl, which
created 28MB of output file, but the end of that log isn't exactly enlightening:
trace:opengl:wglMakeCurrent ((nil),(nil))
trace:opengl:wglMakeCurrent returning True
trace:opengl:wglDeleteContext (0x40369138)
If you can tell me what debug output to post, I'll do it pronto.
BTW, I just noticed that BUG#3099 also applies to SoF2. I really hope this can
be sorted out soon (maybe it's just lack of documentation).

Created an attachment (id=1237)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=1237&action=view)
Output of +module,+file
This is the output created with +module,+file. For the +loaddll output see the
other attachment. Note that e2_d3d8_driver_mfc.dll comes with MP and is also
found correctly, but the game appears to insist in loading the d3d8 DLL from
the filesystem "manually" (so to speak). I experimented putting a real d3d8.dll
where Wine could see it, but that only caused other errors; it may work if you
managed to install a functioning _native_ DirectX/D3D setup...
Let me know if you need other output logs or anything else that might help you
in tracking down this problem.
