I've tested this on 0.9.1 and it continues to function as described above.
As Dan noted, I do have fam installed and enabled, so I do not believe that is
the problem.

Shouldn't it be possible to 'forward' the native graphics card info (IDs &
driver version)? It's somewhat strange that Wine has it's own database, and
most cards are missing right now, anyway...

ok, i think i will file a new bug later on then. Meanwhile i have another
question: Peter, i just downloaded cvs, but i can't get SeriousSam running with
it.I get this error:
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 144 (ATIFGLRXDRI)
Minor opcode of failed request: 1 ()
Value in failed request: 0x2600007
Serial number of failed request: 641
Current serial number in output stream: 641
when i comment out the extra check you added(see below), it starts up just fine.
i read lionel ulmer suggested to not use this check, any ideas?
//pglXGetFBConfigAttrib(gdi_display, cur, GLX_CONFIG_CAVEAT, &value);
//if(value == GLX_SLOW_CONFIG)
// ppfd->dwFlags |= PFD_GENERIC_ACCELERATED;
i have a ati radeon 9600 with the ati proprietary drivers

"demo doesn't work" == _ONE_ bug
you close it as fixed although it still does _not_ work. Now that really helps
the user who submitted the bug(and everybody else searching through that database).
feel free to file a bug for "msvcrt exception handling goes wrong" and close
that as fixed, but this bug surely isn't fixed.

Agreed. Wine needs to use the best method available
on the Linux system. I think there is a library for
inotify that falls back to dnotify, maybe that would
be a reasonable way to go.

Three notes:
1. 20050830 is ancient. Please retest with the current release, 0.9.1.
2. Regardless of whether the USB drive is mounted properly or
recognized by the app, Wine should not be exhibiting the
problem in Clay's comment #1.
3. We want Wine/Linux to reproduce the user experience of Windows
here. When run on a Linux distro that automounts USB drives
and notifies apps of the event (say, using DBUS), Picasa on Wine
should faithfully notice the event and show the pictures on the
USB drive in the import window.
On Linux, apps like gnome-volume-manager are how automounting
and the like are handled. Clay, you might want to verify that
gnome-volume-manager is installed and that the USB drive shows
up on your desktop when you insert the drive. If it doesn't,
you may need to find an Ubuntu box to test on. (Not sure
ubuntu 04.10 is new enough to have gnome volume manager, but
the later versions have it.)

Summary: Wine cannot load Starcraft/Warcraft installer
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.1.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: FreeBSD
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P4
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: walker_643(a)yahoo.com
After a very basic install of wine 0.9.1 from the FreeBSD ports collection, wine
cannot properly load the installer (setup.exe) from either the Warcraft 3 CD or
the Starcraft CD. When it tries, the window frame (title bar + borders) is drawn
but the client area is left undrawn and none of the mouse messages seem to be
received to continue with the install. In the case of the Starcraft installer, I
do hear music very briefly, about 4 seconds.
