complains about an invalid bitmap.
If not run in a Desktop window, it crashes in the window procedure when you move

Run in a Desktop window, it works well, except for a similar crash when you open

was running the 20050524 version in a Fedora 4 system. The bug is 100%
reproducible, even when attempting to run with native DLL's. Native DLL's give a
different sequence of error messages, but it seems to be approximately the same
problem.

BTW & FWIW: HTTP 1.0 and 1.1 say something like:
"If the 30x status code is received in response to a request using
the POST method, the user agent must not automatically redirect the
request unless it can be confirmed by the user, since this might
change the conditions under which the request was issued."
However, MS's wininet does silently redirect POSTs if
INTERNET_FLAG_NO_AUTO_REDIRECT isn't set so this behavior would be up to the
caller of wininet.

> The same problem with Wine 20050720 compiled with source...
Ok I can reproduce the problem: Saving does not work in Origin6/German,
installed and run on Wine-2005-07-25 (SUSE build). I seemingly did not check
thoroughly enough. :-(
It works with the nightly builds of CodeWeavers' CrossOver Office (pre-5.0),
which contains a possibly hackish fix for that (other fixes they tend to merge
with [GPL] Wine immediately). (Nightlies are not publically available, CXO5 will
be sold next month. I'm sure, CW's staff would release their patch/create a fix,
if on can pin-point the problem, which will be really hard though.)
I have an interesting observation though: If I use Wine 20050725 to run Origin
installed by CXO, I can save. This indicates some install-time rather than
run-time problems.
Before 2005-07-20 I unsuccessfully tried DCOM9x only at run time. Can someone
try the following:
- Install DCOM98 or DCOM95
- Install Origin 6
- Run Origin 6
If this solves the problem then we know for sure that it is a DCOM/OLE problem.
If not, we need to find out more.
I'm willing to do some debugging - but only till the end of next week (then I'm
away for vacations.)

Perhaps I found some proposal for solution. When the mouse pointer is often (ex.
second after second) set to left upper corner (0,0), Wine should change its
position to center of the window or right bottom corner. Now, the Windows
application (for example, Theme Hospital) can read mouse position all the time.

Just installed Fedora Core 4 and was trying out some programs under WINE. I
tried one of my favorite programs called Aire Freshener. It does work but it is
"stuck" at the side of the screen. The Wine-Systray opens and if the program
"minimizes" I can't get it to display again. I can move the Systray anywhere
but the program will not reopen. The program is a little odd even under
Windows, you click a icon in the tray to get it to open.
I'm kinda at a loss of how to better describe what's going on.
here is a link to the program

I got the 686 version of Wine for Fedora Core 3 here

Please forgive me if there is anything improper about this post, I am a newbie
to all this. I will try to provide additional if requested

"FiringSquad: What advantages does a driver-level copy protection utility
offer over other methods of copy protection?
Abbie Sommer: The drivers are what prevents the use of kernel debugger
utilities such as SoftICE, Cool Debugger, Soft Snoop etc. Also the drivers
prevent emulators from spoofing a drive, and thwart burning tools such as
Alcohol 120%. StarForce implementation requires no physical modification of
the disc, or the equipment that molds the discs, so this method is a clear
advantage to publishers because it gives them the flexibility to use just
about any plant they wish. This is a limitation of some of our competitors'
products, which require not only special hardware, but also expensive software
add-ons for test and diagnostic equipment."

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3260
------- Additional Comments From ivanleo(a)gmail.com 2005-27-08 16:35 -------
Chances are the driver is for debugger checks, I find in unlikely the windows
ide driver gets unloaded, in any case the correct way to do this is implement
all the interfaces starforce needs to work, and not replacing it, we can't do
that for each and every copy protection scheme in the world, but implementing
the interfaces it needs is a more realistic target.
Ivan.

Summary: Get Starforce copy protection working perfectly.
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
URL: http://www.star-force.com/
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: oliver_stieber(a)yahoo.co.uk
Starforce is becoming the dominant form of copy protection being used for new
games (and game demos!) but at the moment it doesn't work.
Startforce uses a dll called protect.dll the dll loads and performs some copy
protection tests it then installs a driver that takes over IDE CDRom support
on Windows.
Their are currently only two ways to defeat the copy protection on windows, 1:
modify the executable so that it no longer requires copy protection.
2: disable all cdrom drives and use a mini-iso-image for the game.
It should be possible to implement some of the features in protect.dll in Wine
without breaking the DMCA (e.g. replacing the driver)

For Example: There are no links to the cvs repository in the CVS page

It would be nice to see something like this
To get a local copy of the documntation
export CVSROOT=:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/wine

The problem still occurs in todays CVS - specifically running eg. notepad and
clicking on File and trying to select New fails if the window manager is
configured with (KDE option) of 'Focus strictly under mouse'. All other focus
options seem to work ok.

Actually part of this bug is also probably dup of 758, whereby if the window
manager follows focus, then menus cant be clicked on as reported below (in
managed mode). Running in 'click to focus' type mode, or in unmanaged mode
resolves that as well

Even the sound is now working altough a little bit bad (err:dsound:DSOUND_MixOne

I posted this bug to the wine-devel list but got no response, so i'll repost
here what i've found thus far (note :to install the program you need now native
comctl32 due to a regression):
I dug a little deeper into this:I had a knoppix live cd lying around
and there bug is not present. A program like Neatimage
(www.neatimage.com) startsup just fine there. I also
did some tracing to see where the difference is. I'm
quite noobish in this so correct me plz if i'm wrong:
On knoppix running neatimage fine i see this:

Looks to me as if an exception is thrown, now the
program itself tries to handle the exception, and the
program exits with a window abnormal termination.
My question really is why the exception is handled in
two different ways, what could be the cause of this?
If this helps: one guy on the buglist got this error
after upgrading from Fedora Core 1 with vanilla kernel
2.6.10 (which worked
fine) to Fedora Core 3 with kernel 2.6.10-1.766_FC3

Thanks for this comment, but as far as I understand this patch is younger than
my wine version.
I'll build the CVS tree and tell you more about this.
For translation, here is what the pop-up says :

if so, the patch that caused the regression is already pinpointed by me, which

In versions of wine older than CVS 8-23-05, there is a heap corruption bug in
wininet. Heap corruption is particularly bad because it causes the app to crash
at random points in the code (it seems to occurr when allocated memory is
freed). It should work if you update to CVS.

No one has commented on this since 2003, and ati drivers have moved on a lot
since then. Additionally lots of work has gone into the gl and d3d interfaces
(which drive gl) and no one has commented on this for as long as I can
remember. I also ran ATI demos at wineconf with no problems of both opengl and
d3d games so I strongly suspect this is resolved in more recent drivers.
Because of all this, I'm resolving this as abandonded and it can be reopened
if the problem persists and can be actively persued

Not that this shouldn't be fixed, but under Unix one can simply use
RDesktop (http://www.rdesktop.org/), maybe with
GRDesktop (http://www.nongnu.org/grdesktop/; GNOME frontend)
to connect to a Win2003 terminal server - even sound, local printer and local
directory access work.

WOOHOO! This fixes "half" the problem with Bug3148.
Once I applied the patch, I no longer had the problem
with the effect of the mouse button being continously
pressed once I clicked on something.
However, one problem still remains. If I select 3
items (shift + click from start item to finish item),
and I click with the left-mouse, my selection is lost
as now only 1 item is selected (the one I clicked on).
However, if I right-click, my selection isn't lost.
It seems what *should* happen is the following:
1. you make your selection in a listview (2+ items) by
using the shiftkey + left-mouse button
2. let go of shiftkey and items are still selected
3. click on one of the highlighted items
4. selection remains intact
5. drag-drop as you wish
However, things seem to go amiss at step 3. I can
somewhat retain the selection if I keep the shift-key
pressed throughout the process -- which is not the
norm as I should let go at step 2..
So, can someone listen (pay attention) to Vitaly and
apply the patch so at least this bug can get half-way
fixed???
Thanks!
Hiji

I think we need to create multiple metabugs for different copy protection
programs. They are way too differnt to track as a whole "Copy Protection

This regression also seems to affect the Neverwinter Nights Aurora Toolset
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?versionId=3186 . There are some screenshots
there that show what the problem is. I've also tested it with Wine from 20050131
10:34:00 CST and it appears the same as in 20050111. I'll test it in 10:35:00
CST if asked.
Please not that the Toolset does not work properly in the Jan Wines, but it is
certainly better than later releases.

Half life 2 works nicely now, except for rather trippy graphics. But that doesnt

it is fine. Game only seems to get input once every second or so. Running
fullscreen, allowing app to grab cursor, changing windows version do nothing to
help it.

between these two versions, quite a lot happend. Can you try to find out when
exactly it brakes? I mean: Test first 20050628 and then you need to compile Wine
from CVS for the days inbetween, to find out on which day which patch causes the
regression. This makes fixing much easier and tenfolds the change that some
spends some time fixing it.

Summary: Regression in database program that used to work with
20050524
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: simon(a)arara.de
A (quite old) database program (cobra adress plus 8) that's unfortunately still
used in this office used to work with 20050524, when i try to open a datafile in
20050725 though i get these errors:
err:x11drv:X11DRV_CreateWindow invalid window height -25
err:x11drv:X11DRV_CreateWindow invalid window width -6
err:x11drv:X11DRV_CreateWindow invalid window height -25
err:x11drv:X11DRV_CreateWindow invalid window width -6
It successfully opens the file but doesn't display the content of the file.
This is probably rather a bug in the program than a bug in wine but it would be
nice if it'd work again anyway, vmware just eats too much performance.

If I am playing Space Empires IV in Wine using Managed window mode, and I click
the game's minimize button or use Alt-Tab to leave the game temporarily, when I
restore the game the window does not come up full-size and it cannot be resized,
making the game unplayable. (Of course, this can be worked around by not *using*
the minimize and alt-tab, or using Windowed window mode, but it's still an
annoyance if I forget.)

You'll notice from the config file that I had "Managed" = "Y". However, this
problem is *partly* resolved in current CVS, in that my "Beertender" game is now
working again.
Beertender 2 is still not working, possibly because the window manager is
refusing to "manage" it for some reason. Beertender 2 is downloadable from:

I've encountered that bug too.
The only way I found to restore the original lef and right mouse buttons was
to open regedit and change the value of
HKEY_USERS/my_user_name/Wine/ControlPanel/Mouse/SwapMouseButtons from 1 back
to 0...
But the question is : why does Winword comes to put that dumb key in the
registry !
I'm using Wine 20050524 but have also seen the bug on other versions.

Status: UNCONFIRMED

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: burnus(a)gmx.de
One can enter filenames in the file dialog. If one enters in the save dialog
"foo\"
and the directory foo does not exist then
- Wine thinks that it can use "foo\" as file name & closes the dialog windo
- Windows does show a message box:
"The folder 'C:\WINDOWS\foo\' is not available. It is either on a non-available
device, protected by a password, or the filename contains a / or \."
Expected: Do the same as Windows does. Usually it's only a user's typo (like me,
when I forgot a ..\ in '..\..\RuO\').
For the open Dialog, Windows does the same, Wine tries to open it as a file and
says "File not found". The Windows version is maybe a bit more helpful.
(Actually Windows doesn't give the file not found message, it simply stays in
the dialog.)

> Currently, ...
That is completely incomprehensible. It should be:
Currently, if one types a directory name into the "Filename:" field and hits
return, the directory is correctly changed and the "Filename:" field contains
still the typed-in directory name.
In Windows (XP) the directory name is selected (blue background), in Wine not.
In both cases the "Filename:" field has the focus.
Why the Windows way is better, see initial description.

Summary: Open/Save file dialog: <folder name>[return] should
highlight entered directory
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: trivial
Priority: P2
Component: wine-gui
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: burnus(a)gmx.de
Currently, if you time in the file-name filed a directory name and hit return,
you go into that directory (which is ok). In Windows (XP) the entered directory
name is now selected, in Wine not.
Expected: Select the directory name
Reasoning: The user usually does not want to re-use the typed name but type
either a new (sub)directory or the actual file name. This is made easier if the
directory name is selected since pressing any key overwrites the previously
entered name.

Summary: Regression: installer fails to create installation dir
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
URL: http://www.neatimage.net/files/NeatSetup.exe
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: xerox_xerox2000(a)yahoo.co.uk
The installer from the website above fails to create the installation directory,
and can thus not proceed. It pops up a messagebox: the folder can not be found.
I did a regression test and the patch that causes the regression is:
http://www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-cvs/2005/08/0313.html
Using native comctl32 makes the installer proceed.
Until this is fixed i'll file it here as a reminder in the bug db.

WaitCommEvent is implemented now and should no longer be an issue. There is still
a problem with characters hanging around in the input buffer after a close and
open, but that should affect few programs.

I got the same problem (WaitCommEvent) with OziExplorer.
Do you know when this part will be implemented?

After searching bugzilla 2 more similar bugs found:
1244 and 3002
the comment for 2988 say: If your application uses WaitCommEvent, you are lost
for now, as nearly nothing ist implemented for that.
I think this problem is that kind.

+comm tracing for OziExplorer for wine-20050725
When using GPS with gsmman there is no problems.
With winx3(3.3.1) I can get data with OziExplorer from com-port, but the rest
of functionality fail.
I do some search and found similar bug: Bugzilla Bug 2115.
