Summary: Font spacing too wide when entering serial key for
Autocad 2000
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.6.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mmai1879(a)bigpond.net.au
When installing Autocad 2000 through wine all works fine until the form where
the serial key must be entered. The number is entered as three digits followed
by a dash, then eight digits. The font used in wine does not allow enough room
for the first number to be entered, so only two digits will fit. It is the font
spacing that appears to be the problem, rather than the digits being too large.

Listen, im sorry if i have not submitted this right but it is my first time
doing this; anyway, i am new to using wine so dont know what im doing, but it
seems that my wine will not recodnize the cd after i install the program.--i
installed diablo 2 expansion using wine as well as starcraft, both loaded up and
i thaught it was working, then on the "autorun setup screen" the one that says
"play game" i click "play game" and it gives me this exact message: [Diablo II
was unable to detect a disc in your cdrom drive. Please make sure your Diablo II
Expansion Disc is in your CD-ROM drive, the click on "Retry"] Once again i am
sorry if i have done this wrong and please dont hold it against me

I originally discovered switching to a virtual console (IE: CTRL+ALT+F1 for
instance) and back to X will bring CS:CZ back to life. Also, I've confirmed that
upgrading to kernel 2.6.15.1 (vanilla found on kernel.org) stopped all freezes
(I was able to play for 20 minutes straight, no freezing/crashing, and even with
sound!).

Removed .wine folder
Using Synaptic I updated to Wine 0.9.6
Ran winecfg to generate .wine and select Windoze 98 operating system
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Installed PAF5.2 - a message I've not seen mentioned elsewhere is that an error
window pops up complaining that Wordpad can't be found to display the "readme"
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Ran PAF5 - all text missing but looks good enough to proceed further

Copied all fonts from my laptop's Win98SE to ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts
Copied stdole32.tlb and usp10.dll to both ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system and

Ran winecfg and made library override for these 2 files

Ran PAF5:
1 - Looks fine - text everywhere as it should be, tabs and everything! Window

2 - was able to load an existing database, windows had text, folder search for
file worked
3 - on exit pop-up suggesting a file back-up, had text, 'No' button worked

Summary: Regression: Shareaza crashes on startup
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.5.
Platform: PC
URL: http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?appId=1447
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: bakerf(a)ece.osu.edu
After the upgrade to wine 0.9.5 Shareaza crashes on startup. A window pops up
saying:
"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Buffer overrun detected!
A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal
state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated."
Shareaza did not have this problem with wine 0.9.4, but 0.9.5 and 0.9.6 both
suffer from it.
It appears that the bug first appears after the commit on "2006-01-03 16:23:15
CDT" where the atoms query function was implemented in the kernel dll.

This happens whith them all. We don't tell WM that we have topmost window, so

We need to have these windows managed to receive mouse and keyboard focus (Bug 732).

So, I was just playing UT with a few computer opponents(just testing :P) and
randomly after some time of playing my character stops, mouse view stops and I
can see X11's mouse cursor on the screen, clicking on UT doesn't return me to
the action(the keyboard is out too), though the computer players seem to still
play with each other and kill me don't bothering that I can't play anymore. Now
when I do alt-tab, right click on the taskbar and do "Close" on UT, it crashes
with various messages, for example:
http://lux.one.pl/~rush/ut/wineutbug2.jpghttp://lux.one.pl/~rush/ut/wineutbug.jpg
sometimes also wine gives me a more elaborate output like the one below, however
it is a bit strange cause I have 2 UTs, one fresh installed GameOfTheYearEdition
and one copied from my WinXP, the below return was only observed on the second
version ...

Summary: When Unreal Tournament is in fullscreen, KDE's kicker is
still visible
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.6.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: rush(a)u.one.pl
Although there is already a similiar bug in bugzilla I decided too post mine as
a separate one, the description of the other one doesn't fully cover my problem.
The other bug: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2056
In case you don't know that I'm talking about I can give you a shot:
http://lux.one.pl/~rush/ut/winefullscreenbug.jpg
The ONLY problem is a visibility of the Kicker, mouse works fine. UT runs in
OpenGL mode and it doesn't have much to do in DirectX when running this mode(I
suppose).
Also when wine is set to NOT ALLOW window manager to control the window,
fullscreen works fine then.

Hi, i wonder if this installation bug can be fixed anyway: it appearently
happens in the installation of: Install Web Clipper extension tool in Internet
Explorer. So if you don't have Internet Explorer installed it will likely fail.
Did you try to install Internet Explorer and see if it fixes things?

Yes,
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="start.exe=n" wine nmldemo
makes it go further, but not much, so I'll repon it, since the installer still
doesn't start.
Now, it displays something that seems like a splash screen for under a second
while playing a part of a sound, then exits. It doesn't give any console output.

Screenshots say more than a thousand words, so take a look...
http://lux.one.pl/~rush/ut/winebug1.jpg
.. this is a freshly started UT in a window mode, winecfg is set to not allow WM
to control the windows, the effect is quite suprizing. UT on Win32 doesn't use
SDL, maybe doesn't even use DirectX while in OpenGL mode but I'm not completely
sure. The interesting part is that when I click on the place where normally the
icon would be, the decoration shows itself...
http://lux.one.pl/~rush/ut/winebug2.jpg
Also when I put my mouse on a buttons they show themeseleves for a time ...
I hope this is descriptive enough.
Regards,
Damian "Rush" Kaczmarek
PS. The theme on the second shot is a standard winXP one, but with no theme the
effect is the same, btw. I suppose you know that theme support is screwed up ?
Some elements are being drawn so slow you can even see the process and some are
drawn badly. :P

Summary: OpenGL Gamma extension problem in Unreal Tournament

Version: 0.9.6.

Custom Unreal Tournament's OpenGL driver taken from here:
http://cwdohnal.home.mindspring.com/utglr/ handles the brightness in game by
changing the gamma(with OpenGL extension I suppose). When running UT with wine,
the brightness/gamma is unaffacted(even though it it set to max in the game), I
have to manually set it by "xgamma" program.
So this is how it looks now:
http://lux.one.pl/~rush/ut/winegammabug1.jpg
And this is how it should look with gamma tuned(jpg has screwed it up a bit):

A similiar problem was reported to mine 5), it was reported here:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2056 , but I'm gonna post mine as a new
one anyway, UT runs in OpenGL, not in DirectX and the mouse works, it looks like
a completely different problem.
About number 2), I tried both settings with mouse in winecfg but it just
sometimes(rarely, which makes it even harder to find the source of the problem)
looses the focus, it does it even when in fullscreen, but since I cannot find a
way to replicate the bug I won't post it in a separate thread unless I know a
way to debug it somehow, any ideas ?
About 3), if it is a known bug will it be fixed some day or just there's no way
to catch the maximize event ?
4) Haven't found a similiar bug in the list, I will post this bug.
1) Haven't found it in a bug list either so I will post this bug too.
Once again sorry for continuing the discussion here but It was the only way I
know to ask for a few above things.
Best Regards,
*and thanks for your patience ;)

This looks like a duplicate of bug Bug 1410 You could try the attached patch and
see if that helps.
> If this option is switched off still the keyboard interaction doesn't work at

This looks like a duplicate of bug 1385.
So that seems to leave the Font issue which may not be a duplicate (we will
see). ;^) so lets concentrate on that.
Also I could not find these applications in the AppDB could you submit entries

There is no maintainer for Draken in the AppDB so the limited number of
Administrators would be the ones to read it and they just missed/ignored your
comment
Wine has it's own version of direct/x so there is no point in trying to install
the one supplied by the game. I would suggest that you select GDI and try it
that way. and start a new bug report if it does not work.

Sorry, don't understand the system. From the Drakan entry I can only post a
comment (which I did, but the comments seem to be unmaintained/unread). When I
want to create a bug message, I can only choose "website-bugs". Just to be save,
I reopen this (my old) bug:
I tried wine 0.9.6 and bug1335 is gone now. Drakan installs fine and offers two
graphics interfaces: GDI and "HAL". There was no way to install the distributed
directx. I only got a spontainiously popping up success-message without any real
action behind it. The game started up, opened a window but hanged right after
that (black screen, and the window refused to close). I got a lot of directdraw
messages on console. Seems that Drakan uses incompatible calls. If you want
debug output, please tell me your wished debug options for the environment variable.

Hm, that demo behaves the same on 0.9.1 (doesn't work), but I've found an older
demo on my hdd which works on both 0.9.1 and 0.9.5.
I can't tell where from it was downloaded; I showed zuma to somebody else and
downloaded the first one found on Google, it didn't work so I filled this. I
didn't know there are more versions of this game.
Marking the bug as invalid and sorry for noise.
Thanks!

Installation of Tomb Raider II worked fine. When the game is started I get an
error that DirectX5 is not installed. I tried hard to find out what the reason
might be (using several original DirectX dll in several locations, changing
entries in the registry) without success. It seems that there is some old way to
find out which directx version is installed, which doesn't work in this case. I
tried it with a real Win98 installation and DirectX9 and everything worked out
of the box.

I installed "Maniac Mansion Deluxe" and "The new adventures of Zak McCracken".
(Links below) I have tried plain wine and also wine with an underlaying Win98
(dlls from windows/system).
The installer works fine.
If the game is started (eg. "wine Zak2") and the "Allow the window manager to
control the windows" option is switched on the mouse cursor sticks at one place
and only jitters around this place when moving the mouse instead of moving around.
If this option is switched off still the keyboard interaction doesn't work at
all. It is neither possible to stop the movies at the beginning nor save the
game with "F5".
When actors in the games are talking (not in the movies) the white fonts are
underlayed by a black border. The black border is shifted randomly beneath the
white characters.
I have tried it with the Win98 (which I have also taken the dlls from) in qemu
and both games work fine.
It seems that the problem doesn't depend on any other option which can be
changed by winecfg.
Both adventures can be downloaded at

It is not crazy. If you do not have any installer named "user.exe", and run
wine user.exe
at the command prompt, it will also segfault.
The most probable reason is that wine is loading the wrong binary. It is loading
/usr/local/lib/wine/user.exe.so (it exists because win16 provides a basic DLL
called user.exe). However, this is not meant to be invoked directly, and
therefore segfaults.
Maybe you should try
wine ./user.exe
and see if it runs correctly.

1) When using OpenGL mode and custom OpenGL driver the OpenGL Gamma extension
doesn't work. In the native UT Linux version it works.
2) UT tries to keep the mouse inside the window but sometimes the mouse just
goes out of the window and no matter how I click on the window it doesn't want
to focus on the game anymore. I need to close the app.
3) When Window Manager is allowed to control the window, clicking on maximize
doesn't tell UT to go fullscreen, on windows it does.
4) When Window Manager is _NOT_ allowed to control the window, the top window
title along with the border and the buttons is whole black, though when I click
on it I can move the window, when I move it blinks and one can see the buttons
and the title for a few miliseconds.
5) When Window Manager is allowed to control the window, when UT maximizes it
doesn't cover the whole screen, the KDE's Kicker is still visible.

ok, that's it, hope someone can help.

Hi, i tried this app but i can't get it running in earlier wineversions eithere
unless i use native msvcrt.dll. Did you use any native dlls? So it appears there
must be more bugs. The regression is most probably in oleaut32, as i can get it
running with current cvs using native oleaut32 _and_ msvcrt. You might look what
commits there were to oleaut32 between 0.9.5 and 0.9.6. Reverting those patching
should let you track down the patch that broke it.

OK, I've installed wine using the rpm pacakges but don't have a problem in using

In the rpm'ed releases I've narrowed it down to a change between 0.9.5 and 0.9.6
- in 0.9.5 terragen runs correctly, in 0.9.6 it won't start

Pressing <Tab> key when the focus is within a multiline edit control inserts tab
character within the edit control instead of moving the focus to the next
control in the sequence.
Actually, the Wine multiline edit control overtakes all the keystrokes, unlike
in Windows, where TAB, ESC, ENTER are processed by the parent dialog.

Yes, it does. So the 1st bug has a workaround (using the native oleaut32).
Unfortunately, there is second bug that appears in later versions of wine, which
causes myODBC to end with "insufficient memory or disk space" even before user
can do anything.

I only partially agree with you. It seems particularly foolhardy to import a
modern linux shell environment into a 16 bit windows environment.
Anyway your advice is spot on. This works:
unset LS_COLORS
wine Bcs.exe
This actually gets past the "Insufficient space" error. Obviously LS_COLORS is a
big environement variable.
But the now working program has some kind of PATH error and cannot find its data
files, as I explained above.
I wonder if there would be a way to find out what DOS environment variables
there are in windows 3.11?
I have currently put the program in C:\bcs\ because the manual says that is
where it normally is. I have tried other places as well as "Bcs" etc.
I may go and travel to find a windows box and see what the default file
locations are for this program, and imitate on this fake_windows dir.
Thanks for all your help. I'm closer than I have been for a few years.

Switching to the console and back? When I experience the freeze of Steam, the
application is for me 100% non-responsive, and I can not switch to console,
neither can I do anything else.
I switched back and forth to console and experienced a freeze anyway.. so I
can't confirm that.
I again tried using both OSS and ALSA drivers with the same result. Still
freezing of Steam and games launched from Steam. I don't believe this is a sound
issue, because we have the problem when running no sound at all, and when just
running Steam, withing starting any games. What Gregor Muench is describing in
#28 seems like a hole other issue.

Hi.
For your Comment #39
> 1) Problem with leading space in printer name
> Real solution is probably to do the same as Windows does
> (or what we believe it does), which is trim() of OpenPrinterW() parameter.
The wine testsuite is the place to verify this.
I created a Patch for winspool/tests:
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2006-January/023538.html
My XPsp2_home fails with ERROR_INVALID_PRINTER_NAME in this Test, so i
IMHO, the Space in front of the Printername is a bug in ISS@VFP9.
Did you already test:
- with all available Service-Pack's / Hotfixes for ISS and VFP9?
- without the latest Fixes for ISS and VFP9 (Fixes can also add Bugs)?
- with a different Default-Printer?
- with a Dfferent App for VFP9 (is the Bug in VFP9 or in ISS)?
It's also Possible, that a bug in a different wine-DLL add the Space.
WINEDEBUG="+relay,+seh" produces a very big log.
You can use "Debug\\RelayExclude" to shrink that log.
See: http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys
> 2) Missing PrinterDriverData registry key
> 3) Missing PrinterDriverData\\FontSubTable key
This is Easy to fix, but we need a testcase for this to verify,
if the keys are created by "AddPrinter", created by the Driver or
if they are optional and the wine-log should be different.
About "PPD File":
This Entry is wine-specific.
I updated http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys
Did you try to print with a different PPD-File (different Printer)?
> 5) Windows version emulation
> fixme:commdlg:PrintDlgExA stub
There is already an Entry for this in Bugzilla: Bug #4342
For your Problem with the wrong Printing-Results:
This Problem is gdi32/wineps - specific and
i must say sorry, I'm unable to help here.
We should close this BUG as soon, as Issue 1 is fixed
(since your Printers are visible in ISS@VFP9 and ISS@VFP9 does Print),
and open a new Bugzilla-Entry about the wrong Printing-Results.
I'm working to get PDF-Creation to work inside wine
("http://wiki.winehq.org/PDF"), but there are to mutch
parts missing in winspool.drv yet.

I must apologize for submitting this bug report, as the stuttering was caused by
a process that had gone wild. I did try to test for this when I submitted the
report, by running Quake 4, but there the sound played fine in both videos and
in the main menu.

Summary: OpenOffice 2.0.1 complains "Missing vcl resource", then
crashes
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.6.
Platform: Other
URL: http://openoffice.org
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Keywords: download
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
To repeat:
install OpenOffice 2.0.1 (without jre)
Run soffice.exe. It complains:
Missing vcl resource. This indicates that files vital to localization are
missing. You might have a corrupt installation.
Comparing with an installation on Windows, using
find -type f | xargs md5sum
doesn't find any obvious missing files (though I was comparing
slightly different installations, so I might have missed something).
If you continue, the program crashes with an exception, or just silently exits.
The log is not very informative:
...
fixme:dbghelp:sffip_cb NIY on 'O:\SRC680\src\desktop\wntmsci10.pro\bin\soffice.pdb'
fixme:dbghelp:sffip_cb NIY on 'O:\SRC680\src\vcl\wntmsci10.pro\bin\vcl680mi.pdb'
...
I'd like to use OpenOffice as a regression test for Wine,
but first we have to get it working...

Summary: Office 2000 apps crash on startup
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ls65594(a)appstate.edu
I am running WINE compiled from CVS, and I was able to install Microsoft
Office 2000 without problems (and also ran wineboot afterwords). However,
whenever I try to start one of the applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint,
etc), the splash screen and then the GUI momentarily show up on the screen,
and then exits out. Apparently, this is not a "crash" proper because no
backtrace is printed. Here is the output from the launching of powerpoint:
fixme:ole:CoRegisterMessageFilter stub
fixme:richedit:REExtendedRegisterClass semi stub
fixme:ver:RtlVerifyVersionInfo (0x55bdf80c,64,6): Not all cases correctly
implemented yet
It's not much, I know. Another thing I noticed is that Office Assistant would
try to pop up right before the application closed, but I don't know if this is
related. At any rate, it doesn't pop up any more, or it is too fast for me to
notice.

Well, shoot. That CreateFile call is trying to open
mfc42, not create it. So I gave the wrong part of the log file.
The installer still fails to install anything with today's CVS.
I tried using winecfg to set the wine version to win95, didn't help.
WINEDEBUG=+module,+file,+dialog wine Disk1/Setup.exe
produces somewhat more interesting output; between
the install wizard dialog box and the dialog box saying
all is well, you can see it probing for mfc42, msvcrt, and for
some reason, conin$ and conout$. But nothing really jumps out at me.

An object to be moved
The screenshot shows (zoomed in somewhat) a white canvas with one simple text
object that has been selected: hence the black frame with various drag handles
around the edge and in the middle (the ones sticking out allow rotation and
shearing).
All the drag handles work except the one in the middle - which should allow the
user to move (drag) the object across the canvas. For some reason this is not
working.
Without any special debug, I notice that the log is appended with:
err:toolbar:TOOLBAR_GetImageListForDrawing bitmap for ID 0, index 100 is not
valid, number of bitmaps in imagelist: 5
each time I try and move the object.
Any hints on how to create debug output that might focus in on the root cause
would be appreciated - I'm happy to try and produce debug logs.

Using a windows version of msvcrt.dll (from dll-files.com), and setting in
winecfg to use this in preference to the builtin version, the problem DOES goes
away. I will attach an equivalent screenshot so you can see what the output
should look like.
Unfortunately this is shrink-wrapped software, so no possibility to hack the
software itself to debug it.
The company website is www.novadevelopment.com, product Greetings Card Factory -
I have version 1.0 (note they are now selling version 5.0). Although there is a
try before you buy section, I could not find any downloadable trial version of
this program - just various clipart samples.

At the the start of a bug report it is not always possible to know that it is a
"known problem" so you ask questions...
As far as what you can do goes, you can compile from cvs or wait for a new release.
As far as entering individuals data goes (and this bug) with a "clean install of
wine using CVS" there are many problems and entering and editing individuals
seems to be one of them. (I can enter and edit them at times but it is difficult)
Confirming for now

Ok, so far we invested 34 hours into this problem, and this is where we are
right now:
1) Problem with leading space in printer name
trace:winspool:GetDefaultPrinterW L"xerox_230,WINEPS,LPR:xerox_230"
trace:winspool:GetDefaultPrinterA 0x0000000a/0x00000104:L"xerox_230"
trace:winspool:OpenPrinterW (printerName: L" xerox_230", pDefault (nil))
trace:winspool:OpenPrinterW Can't find printer L" xerox_230" in registry
It looks like ISS (application we are trying to run under Wine) asks for default
printer name, takes the result, adds leading space and then calls
OpenPrinterW(), which fails. Nothing comes out of the printer. This looks like a
bug in ISS itself, probably fixed by Windows API.
Temporary solution we used is copy of "xerox_230" registry key as " xerox_230",
while preserving subkeys value. This "solves" situation, so we could proceed to
next point.
Real solution is probably to do the same as Windows does (or what we believe it
does), which is trim() of OpenPrinterW() parameter.
2) Missing PrinterDriverData registry key
trace:winspool:GetPrinterDataExA (0x2, "PrinterDriverData", "PPD File" (nil),
(nil), 00000000, 0x406bc094)
warn:winspool:GetPrinterDataExA Can't open subkey "PrinterDriverData"
err:psdrv:PSDRV_FindPrinterInfo Error 2 getting PPD file name for printer '
xerox_230'
We solved it by definition of this key:
[System\\CurrentControlSet\\Control\\Print\\Printers\\
xerox_230\\PrinterDriverData] 1137859786
"PPD File"="/etc/cups/ppd/xerox_230.ppd"
At this point, is starts to print something, even it is not what is should be.
3) Missing PrinterDriverData\\FontSubTable key
This is probably not a problem, since FontSubTable defines table of font
substitions. We created the key to get rid of error message in log file.
Note that notepad application is able to print on xerox_230, so this key should
not matter.
4) Ability to change printers in print dialog
With Wine_20050310, it was not possible to change printer in print dialog. With
latest CVS Wine (20060120), this problem is fixed.
5) Windows version emulation
If Wine emulates WinNT40, dialog where you can change printer works.
If Wine emulates WinXP or Win2k version, dialog where you can change printer
does not list any printers, this can be found in log:
fixme:commdlg:PrintDlgExA stub
Problem can be fixed by using native WinXP comdlg32.dll (as Detlef pointed out).
Currently, ISS is able to print, but text is missing, while lines are there. See
attached missing_text.ps file (which we produced be definition of to_file
printer, which generated *.ps file).
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Standard output (console) from running bugged Photoshop under Wine. Contains
lots of fixmes and an divide-by-0 exception.
Here's the attachment.
Also note that this is how I installed Photoshop: I opened regedit in windows
and exported everything under the LOCAL/software/Adobe key. For some reason,
Wine's regedit was unable to import this file (a separate bug which I'm not
sure is on file), so I had to manually enter the license code. I didn't copy
any other registry keys however.
When this first started happening, I noticed that Photoshop booted with a giant
out-of-place floating scrollbar right in the middle of the program window.
Apparently this scrollbar belonged to the brush palette (i.e. the lost
scrollbar disappeared when I hid the brush palette).
Also, might anyone know how to reset preferences of Photoshop? I think that
might work as a temporary fix...
