Are these errors new? Do they go away with removing my recient patches? These
reafctoring patches are just that and should have no impact on dsound operation.
Please let me know if this is a regression or not.

I think this is the indicated place to this bug. although it happens in a game,
it has to do with Richedit.
Error in Richedit control, probably causing letters corruption in Age of Empires 2.
I this game the letters all appear in black, and some are unreadble.
I'm getting some errors with richedit control, i'll post it in attach.
I'm using today CVS of Mesa (06 - 01 -2005), in a gentoo system, with gcc 3.4.4.

While Playing Age of Empires 2, I'm geting Dsound errors.
i'll attach a brief log.
And another thing is that a can't listen even normal sound (small size mp3)
ingame. Although if i set the resolution lower the game appears to work better.

Now that the msvcrt regression has been fixed in Wine 0.9.5, it is again
possible to run the Settlers IV with builtin msvcrt. However, when I press the
network button from within the game, which would normally bring up a list of
available games, edit fields for player name etc., it crashes. This does not
happen when using native msvcrt.

I have no idea what commit fixed the problem, but this behaviour no longer
occurs for me. (For that matter, the IMO desirable but definitely not
Windows-consistent ability to scroll off of the sides of the game window at the
redoced resolution is now no longer present either. I have not tested whether or
not it is still possible to change resolution while the game is running.) I
believe this bug can be closed as fixed; I'd do it myself, but I'm not
completely sure that I'm authorized to do so.

Okay, cancel that. After more fiddling and a few more CVS recompiles, it now

reproduce Luiz's failure, but in ordinary operation I have no problems with the

Vitaliy Margolen asked me (see duplicate bug 4024) to update and "delete ~/.wine
dir, and just install python (using builtin msi)?"
The RH download site at winehq seems to lag the other distros. I'm too lazy to
build from source, but "yum update" finally delivered Wine 9.4. It still
explodes. Dialogs are missing lots of images and widgets. Selecting a radio
button or two and blindly clicking "next" ultimately yields the bad news dialog:
"Python 2.4.2 setup ended prematurely because of an error. ..."

What happend to this patch:
Fri Feb 04 2005 - 16:41:04 CST by Carlos Lozano
http://www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-devel/2005/02/0111.html
Quote: "I have updated the patch what does work Theme Hospital,
and Dungeon Keeper games, to actual CVS. It is only for
testing purposes."
This was nearly a year ago, so i think it has been removed again since then. Why?
The only reason i can think of is that it broke other things or the patch
included other changes that are not related to this bug, but that are 'broken'
(which is a matter of leaving this changes away to get a working fix).
Thanks,
Werner

------- Additional Comments From arieldembling(a)gmail.com 2006-05-01 23:43 -------
OK, I've talked with Vitaliy some more, and we think this could be caused by heap corruption.
The application hangs in a loop calling GlobalUnlock repeatedly and waiting for it to return FALSE (binary 0) which would mean that the object whose handle is 7ff2d842 is unlocked. Sadly, this never happens, so GlobalUnlock always returns TRUE (binary nonzero), meaning that the object is still locked.
Now, why is the object never unlocked??? That's what I'll try to see by tracing +heap. I'll report the findings here.

Wine 0.9.5 has greatly improved the situation. I was able to install and run FM8
Pro. The console output from the install process will be attached later.
As I said, the application starts up fine. The next problem is that the text in
the many list dialogs(such as scripts list, table list, database list) is
invisible. But that is not within the scope of this bug.
Thanks for the hard work!

Please reopen, this bug is *NOT* fixed!
Google Earth still does not install on my system. I'm now using wine 0.9.4 from
the Gentoo Portage system.
When I run "wine GoogleEarth.exe" (downloaded GoogleEarth today), an "Google
Earth - InstallShield Wizard" window comes up. In that window, two bars in the
progress bar are displayed and then nothing happens anymore. Before I started
it, I ran winecfg to set the Windows version to Windows XP.
Next, I ran GoogleEarth.exe with "winedbg". After it hang, I pressed <Ctrl>+<c>.
An error window showed up:

I'm using Debian 3.1 testing with gnome desktop and having 2 problems:
Hapedit toolbar and menu icons disappeared when upgrading to wine 0.94 from

The another problem is that when hapedit is run without wine virtual desktop,
there is no sign of it in gnome panel's window list or window selector. Also
minize and maximize buttons are missing from the top of the window.
The program is still quite usabe so neither of these problems are very critical,
though it would be nice to have them fixed.

Summary: Multiple OLE problems
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.4.
Platform: Other
URL: http://www.kiwisyslog.com/software_downloads.htm#cattool
s
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Keywords: download
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-ole
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
This app was requested in wine-users today
(http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-users/2006-January/020085.html)
I tried it with this morning's CVS.
The first problem was it calls _invoke with 22 params(!).
So I patched _invoke to handle that
(see http://winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2006-January/023198.html)
That got the app a lot further, but there are several OLE problems
evident in the log.
To reproduce:
$ rm -rf ~/.wine
$ wine Kiwi_CatTools2.exe
(when it asks you if you want to upgrade mdac, say no; we don't expect
the app to work, just want to see if our OLE falls over. mdac doesn't
install anyway at the moment.)
(When it asks you whether to install as app or service, say app)
(finish installing as normal, don't run app)
$ cd ".wine/drive_c/Program Files/CatTools2"
$ wine CatTools.exe
(when it says it's having trouble creating the database, click cancel)
(app exits)
Here's the log, with duplicate/boring lines removed:

Now that we can see the name of the actions that fail, it's easier to see why.
It's unlikely that Wine will be able to install or use USB drivers for a while.
This bug should pend on the ability to load drivers in Wine, so it's not an MSI
bug, and I'm going to assign it back to Mr. Bugs to decide what to do with it.

The install goes all the way through to 100% for me now, albeit very slowly, and
using *lots* of memory.
It hangs at the end (after 100%), and I had to kill it. Looks like an ole issue.
Running UO.EXE from "c:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Ultima Online Gold" works as
expected.
This bug appears to be fixed, likely mainly due to Rob's OLE work.

Seems to install the game completely now, but hangs at the end.
The game fails to start with an error dialog
"Get monitor info failed for adapter 0"
"File not found"
"The application will now exit."
"SSE Instructions detected."
"Direct3D Device not initialized."
and outputs the following FIXME message:
fixme:d3d_caps:IWineD3DImpl_GetAdapterMonitor (0x7fd42768)->(Adptr:0)
Remaining problems with the install appear to be ole related, not MSI related.

Summary: wine & turbocad
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.3.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: test
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: tedhansen(a)sasktel.net
I apologize if bugzilla isn't the proper way to do this.
I am trying to get some version of turbocad to run in wine & it is beyond my
abilities so I'm hoping somebody will be able to help.
I have version 7 (3D) which would be the preferred version to try to get
working because then it seems probable that all newer versions (current
is version 11) may also work. There is some record of this attempt here:
http://groups.google.com/group/comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine/browse_frm/th…
However, this seems hopeless plus all 3D versions are not free so I am
now trying Turbocad LE which is free & currently available from
http://freecad.com/.
It seems more promising, it actually runs but has problems:
-could not get the self-extracting exe to extract (minor problem, I extracted
using windows & the setup.exe then worked to do the install.
-all drawing functions seem to work.
-(Main problem). Unable to properly dimension anything, units will not drop
off trailing zeros. Unable to edit properties of any entity. Error box "enter a
number" or "enter a number between 0 & 1.0000000000" pops up when
attempting to edit properties. There is a debug output however, see this
post:
http://groups.google.com/group/comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine/browse_frm/th…
It seems like t-c keeps its properties in a database or list somewhere & is
unable to communicate with the database. Since this appears (at this time
anyway) to be the only bug in getting this app to work, I have some hope
that it might be possible but I haven't got the skill to do it.
Can anybody help?

Yes, it's still in the wrong place. Look, all our setup dialogs try to center
in the middle of the desktop, and they all appear centered. It's only this
special case of MessageBox(HWND_DESKTOP...)
Markus
PS: Use the attached .exe file to check it for yourself. It only contains this
MessageBox call. Check it out under Windows and with Xnest and you will see
what I mean...

No, you're not, because before there were no boxes at all.
You problem is likely to be that you don't have the right fonts installed. The
size of the key boxes is determined by font metrics.

Thank you for the prompt response.
My apologies for the previous incomplete message, I hope this will clear things up.
The problem is with Delphi 7 Professional & Enterprise, when asked to enter the
registration keys the operation cannot be completed successfully since the
installer boxes are not the right size (they seem to overlap or something) and
they do not take the correct number of keys per box. As I said previously, this
exact same problem was reported and fixed in 3309, but now appears to be a
problem once again.
Please see the two attached JPEG images for a visual explanation of what the
installer boxes should look like.
Delphi is a commercial application, so it cannot be downloaded for free, unless
you want to use a trial of a newer version, you can go to:
http://www.borland.com/downloads/download_delphi.html, but I cannot guarantee
that the installer boxes will have exactly the same configuration.

Summary: oleaut32 -native ODBC crash for VFP app
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.4.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P2
Component: wine-ole
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: tuharsky(a)misbb.sk
We have an ISS application here that runs our whole office (150 computers). We
move part of them to linux, our goal is 50%.
Application is based on VFP7 and connects to Oracle DB using ODBC client 10
(windows version, because there is no free Oracle ODBC driver for Linux). Now
the ISS app is moving to VFP9 and we need to have ultimate version of WINE.
There have been problems upgrading Wine from 200504 version (bug 3966) but they
are solved now.
One bug remains, and that's what is this report about.
The success is based on OLEAUT32 -the native one must be used, otherways the app
crashes. I'll post screenshot and logs.

Well, second and third bug closed. Third? Let me explain.
Because the june version of winecfg was unstable and not functional, I have
compiled the Wine 0.9.4 and set DLL overrides by winecfg, both with needed
Windows version for VFP versions.
When I set the odbccp32 to native, the second bug is gone, but another one takes
an action immediately. I'll post both screenshot and logs.
The only way to get rid of the third bug is to use native OLEAUT32.

Looks like this installer requires tranforms to work properly. It starts
msiexec like this:
MSIEXEC.EXE /i \"Z:\\home\\mike\\msi\\Omnipage\\OmniPage\\OmniPage Pro

Currently we parse the PATCH variable on the command line, but not the
TRANSFORMS variable.

These problems should be fixed with the following patch.
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2006-January/023166.html
Please try it out and let me know if it works for you or not. I used the
ES_AUTOHSCROLL workaround, but I suspect that the problem is that the correct
fonts are not present on the system, or that the edit or msi dialog metrics are
incorrect.
I will close this bug when the patch is committed to WineHQ.

The above trace means that RemoveMenu is failing, which is why you're ending up
with many menu items.
Looks like it's crashing at dlls/user/menu.c # 2011 at the line, as submenu is
probably NULL due to the above bug, but it's not checked.
submenu = MENU_GetMenu( hsubmenu );

Here's the trace Raphael requested, for DAZ|Studio this time. More recent
releases of DAZ|Studio continue to load after showing the error (but crash
later, due to an OpenGL regression, plus DAZ|Studio is affected by the
WM-rewrite OpenGL regression, anyway).
There are also some drawing errors in the splash-screen that might be related
(wrong colors on some widgets - blue instead of dark gray). Still, the problem
remains, if DAZ|Studio could fail due to an 'insufficient' color depth, I'm
almost certain other applications show this behaviour as well...

I raised this in #winehackers and Vitaliy Margolen said he believes the "ez-cdda sleep"/GetThreadContext bug is already solved. He also noted that 0xffffe410 is just a return address from a syscall, so it might not be relevant.
I'll do a trace with an unstripped binary and then update this bug report.

AFAIR nothing, I was back at the prompt. For quite some time now I couldn't
spend time on the topic of this bug and therefore didn't have the software
installed for testing ... with wine 0.9.4 even the installer doesn't work
anymore, so at least from now on I will treat this bug in my "personal
bugzilla" definitely as closed as it is here. :)
But despite of this really many thanks for your efforts and interest.

I keep telling you about the _window manager problem_.
Even if Wine does the right thing the Window manager will mess it up, so please
check your window manager's autoplace configuration, or try use a different
window manger (eg. twm). You can even try it in a Xnest session or Xvnc so you
don't have to change your configuration. Try it like this:
Xnest :1
DISPLAY=:1 xterm &
DISPLAY=:1 twm &
DISPLAY=:1 wine blah.exe
Or even without starting twm or an xterm:
Xnest :1
DISPLAY=:1 wine blah.exe
If that still puts your dialog in the wrong place, let me know.

WINEDEBUG=+winsock output
I known that unix has telnet and ssh client. SecureCRT integrate ssh1, ssh2,
telnet, rlogin and serial connection all in one. And each session runs "tabbed"
like firefox. Many users in the VanDyke's forum ask for a port for unix. And
personally I need this application before switch from Windows to Linux.
Attached there is the output of WINEDEBUG=+socket with native ws2* dlls.
I'm compiling the current CVS (downloaded now) so tomorrow I have the results.

Oops, right, I forgot I set WINEPREFIX in the startup scripts to system wide
locations ages ago to allow other users to use applications another user
installed even if they depend on stuff their installer wrote to the registry.
The feature request should be the opposite then - fall back to a global
registry and global dosdevices akin to the one I've set up w/ a global
WINEPREFIX while still allowing overrides to individual settings (e.g. global
registry in /etc/wine, global drive mappings in /etc/wine/dosdevices,
additional per-user mappings (e.g. to the home directory) in ~/.wine or the
likes.

I think it's the same issue, and the same address (0xffffe410) is involved. In that thread Mike Hearn mentions that he implemented a solution, but the discussion seems to end there (see http://www.winehq.com/hypermail/wine-devel/2004/10/0372.html ).
I wonder if his patch ever made it to the main Wine tree...

I find one solution to the bad looking fonts is to specify a font path (now in
registry) containing the font it is looking for.
In HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Fonts
create a string called "Path" and set it to for example "/home/jesse/.fonts".
I haven't figured out why Battlefield 1942 won't load it's font right though.

Hm, really looks like the DS_CENTER routine in user/dialog.c @ line 537 is not
really doing something useful (or I misunderstood it :-) I think Wine should
at least TRY to center it. If some windows managing moves it, ok, but if not,
Wine is doing the right thing here. Do you think, adding DS_CENTER to the
MessageBox dialog would be the right thing, or would you have another idea?

The Windows 2000 registry shows that it's implemented shdocvw.dll.
It implement it would involve reverse engineering the format of the shortcuts,
then implementing the ole object based on dlls/shell32/shelllink.c

Unfortunately, Wine isn't so simple, for anybody :/
I'm not sure whether DS_CENTER works right in Wine (I suspect so), but in my
experience even if you get that right, half your users will still see the wrong
thing because of the window manager autoplace issue. At least it should work on
some window managers though...

:-)
Seeing that something seems to go wrong and knowing what to do are different
things... I spent some time trying to find a solution for this, but without
some deeper knowledge about the internal Wine structures it's not as easy as
it might look for a codeweavers developer... my first idea about setting a
WS_CENTER flag for the dialogs .rc file isn't really good, and trying to find
exactly why the MessageBox function goes into this and not into that branch is
even more complex if you come from Windows, where debuggers looks a bit
different to winedbg :-)
So I decided to report this issue at least... leave it unconfirmed or whatever
you like. When I find time, I can do a second try to find and probably fix it.
But maybe meanwhile someone walks over it and see something immediately...

http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2006-January/023150.html
ABBYY 7.0 won't start up.
bash-3.00$ wine FineReader.exe
Unknown COM Error. Error code: 0x80004005
Solved by:
mkdir ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/profiles/mike/Local\ Settings/Application\ Data
Still crashes, with what looks like ole/msvcrt exception problems.
However, the original (msi) problem should be solved, so I'll close this when
the patch is committed to WineHQ. Somebody can open a new bug for the new problems.

I just tried installing WEB-ED under Wine .9.4 and it worked fine. MSVBVM60.DLL
was installed to the system32 folder and the full setup ran. I didn't have the
installer packaged inside a self-executing zip, as it is in the demo package,
but I doubt that would have an affect.

Actually, there's two different versions of Abby Fine Reader here:
FR703962.exe 47131648 bytes version 7
FR80PE_TB_EGFD.exe 51855320 bytes version 8
that's why the traces are different.

Summary: Set Cooperative Level Bug
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.3.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: blocker
Priority: P3
Component: wine-directx-ddraw
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: arilbs(a)hotmail.com
I am not sure of the severity of this bug (it's definitely blocking me from
running my program), how fixable it is, or really anything about it other than
that the IRC members told me that it was a bug with Wine and not my program or
computer. While attempting to run an .exe file, I got this error:
ari@Ari:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Gravity/RO$ wine qro.exe
fixme:ddraw:Main_DirectDraw_SetCooperativeLevel
(0x7fe54818)->(0x10024,00000c08)
err:ddraw:create_dib CreateDIBSection failed!
fixme:ddraw:Main_DirectDraw_CreateSurface failed surface creation with code
0x80070057
fixme:ddraw:Main_DirectDraw_SetCooperativeLevel
(0x7fe54818)->(0x10024,00000008)
The screen flashes, and a new prompt appears. I tried running 0.9.4 but I
didn't even get this far, I ran into a lot more errors.
I could not find this bug on the bug list, and no one on the IRC channel could
tell me its status. If someone could send me an email to update me at
aberkowi(a)student.umass.edu (not my login name) then that would be really
helpful. I'm willing to lend a hand to anyone else who wants to fix this.
Otherwise....good luck!

Unfortunately, I don't have an SMP machine to test on. The problem could be in
MSI as except for the records, the database, view, package and other handles are
not thread safe.
I guess you either have to install it on a uni-processor machine, have a go at
debugging it yourself, or send me an SMP machine in the mail ;)

Bernd,
Thanks for the feedback. I'm aware the radio buttons should grey out when
disabled, the richedit text selects itself for some reason and that MsiGetMode
is not implemented.
To get the right behaviour with the richedit control I tried using the
WM_MOUSEMOVE to trigger the DoAction event, but that meant that the mouse must
enter the richedit control itself (not just its scrollbar), then settled for
WM_VSCROLL, because it's closer to what I want, despite the selection problem.
Anyway, could you please open seperate bugs for each issue you find, and then
assign them to me, otherwise this bug will end up as a mixup of many different
issues, and I won't know when to close it.
thanks

unstable.
Marking as invalid as it is stated on download page that package is for unstable
debian.
