Summary: Richedit exception
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.6.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P1
Component: wine-richedit
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: frix(a)engineer.com
Good day,
I'm running an accounting program: Omni Accounts, which uses the RichEdit2 control.
[View More]omniaccounts.com/software_download/default.php)
When I add new transaction information, which can be accessed via the menus:
Ledger->Journal Batches->New Journal Batch.
The dialog that opens provide a drop down list in one of the cells where the
appropriate ledger account applicable to the transaction can be selected. The
contents of the drop down list is configurable to suit the business for which
Omni Accounts is used in.
Upon selecting an item the following exception box appears:"External exception
80000101".
After the exception, the drop down list arrow in the cell doesn't work anymore.
Only the exception is raised again.
I've attached the debug output, running the program with "export
WINEDEBUG=+richedit".
I've tried using the "riched20.dll" from native windows XP. The drop down lists
works properly, but it complains
about unimplemented functions. This happens when the "tip of the day" is
rendered in anoter window. For some reason
the native richedit2.0 can't handle it. Other functions in the software also
uses this "popup/another window" function,
thus rendering the software still fairly useless at this point in time.
I'll attach the debug output as follow:
Omni_native_richedit20.txt and
Omni_buildin_richedit20.txt
This was originally addressed in bug: 3239
Regards,
Frikkie Thirion

Reporter could you try too and close the bug if works? (PS i ran in virtual
desktop mode, otherwise a window you have to answer gets hidden behand the main
installer screen)

You knew what I meant when I said user.. the person using the comp (as long as
they have root access).. <g>
rm -f 'ing sounds like a fine idea to me.. compatibility with that script has
been a nightmare since I joined the project back in '02, with my first patch
being to that script! lol

User can't configure sudo. Only root can. And because this is system level
config Wine has nothing to do whith that...
And I do not like to use sudo by default. The proper sudo configuration should
not allow 'make install' if the system is so secure that it doesn't have "su -c"
working. <g>

Perhaps we should add a toplevel question asking the user if they have ever used
sudo on the machine they are trying to install wine on, and if not, either fail
asking them to configure it, or fall back to using su, with a warning that some
systems have a non-functional su, and so if wine is not installed, to log out
after make'ing and login as root to run make …
[View More]install.. If they have used it
before (which would mean that it is configured), then proceed using sudo..
Forwarding to wine-devel for further debate.

Hm good point but on most systems sudo requires configuration. And su should
work as-is, unless the system is broken.
