DAZ|Studio trace
Here's the trace Raphael requested, for DAZ|Studio this time. More recent
releases of DAZ|Studio continue to load after showing the error (but crash
later, due to an OpenGL regression, plus DAZ|Studio is affected by the
WM-rewrite OpenGL regression, anyway).
There are also some drawing errors in the splash-screen that might be related
(wrong colors on some widgets - blue instead of dark gray). Still, the problem
remains, if DAZ|Studio could fail due to an 'insufficient' color depth, I'm
almost certain other applications show this behaviour as well...

I raised this in #winehackers and Vitaliy Margolen said he believes the "ez-cdda sleep"/GetThreadContext bug is already solved. He also noted that 0xffffe410 is just a return address from a syscall, so it might not be relevant.
I'll do a trace with an unstripped binary and then update this bug report.

AFAIR nothing, I was back at the prompt. For quite some time now I couldn't
spend time on the topic of this bug and therefore didn't have the software
installed for testing ... with wine 0.9.4 even the installer doesn't work
anymore, so at least from now on I will treat this bug in my "personal
bugzilla" definitely as closed as it is here. :)
But despite of this really many thanks for your efforts and interest.

I keep telling you about the _window manager problem_.
Even if Wine does the right thing the Window manager will mess it up, so please
check your window manager's autoplace configuration, or try use a different
window manger (eg. twm). You can even try it in a Xnest session or Xvnc so you
don't have to change your configuration. Try it like this:
Xnest :1
DISPLAY=:1 xterm &
DISPLAY=:1 twm &
DISPLAY=:1 wine blah.exe
Or even without starting twm or an xterm:
Xnest :1
DISPLAY=:1 wine blah.exe
If that still puts your dialog in the wrong place, let me know.

WINEDEBUG=+winsock output
I known that unix has telnet and ssh client. SecureCRT integrate ssh1, ssh2,
telnet, rlogin and serial connection all in one. And each session runs "tabbed"
like firefox. Many users in the VanDyke's forum ask for a port for unix. And
personally I need this application before switch from Windows to Linux.
Attached there is the output of WINEDEBUG=+socket with native ws2* dlls.
I'm compiling the current CVS (downloaded now) so tomorrow I have the results.

Oops, right, I forgot I set WINEPREFIX in the startup scripts to system wide
locations ages ago to allow other users to use applications another user
installed even if they depend on stuff their installer wrote to the registry.
The feature request should be the opposite then - fall back to a global
registry and global dosdevices akin to the one I've set up w/ a global
WINEPREFIX while still allowing overrides to individual settings (e.g. global
registry in /etc/wine, global drive mappings in /etc/wine/dosdevices,
additional per-user mappings (e.g. to the home directory) in ~/.wine or the
likes.

Try without winetools. (delete ~/.wine dir and install this program. Then run it.)
It's not critical, nor highest priority.

May I ask why you need this application? Any *nix system has a telnet & ssh clients.
Could you try with latest cvs? If no, please wait for 0.9.5. There are several
known regressions in wine-0.9.4 that are fixed.

I don't see a relation with the problem you mentioned with 16 bits, since I only have 1 process here. But take a look at the thread called "ez-cdda sleep" here:
http://www.winehq.com/hypermail/wine-devel/2004/10/0024.html
I think it's the same issue, and the same address (0xffffe410) is involved. In that thread Mike Hearn mentions that he implemented a solution, but the discussion seems to end there (see http://www.winehq.com/hypermail/wine-devel/2004/10/0372.html ).
I wonder if his patch ever made it to the main Wine tree...

I find one solution to the bad looking fonts is to specify a font path (now in
registry) containing the font it is looking for.
In HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Fonts
create a string called "Path" and set it to for example "/home/jesse/.fonts".
I haven't figured out why Battlefield 1942 won't load it's font right though.

Wine was configured with winetools (TFTs, DCOM98, MFC, IE6). With wine 0.9.3 the
buttons were all complete (pictures on it). With wine 0.9.4 the buttons are now
empty (but fully functional). As there are a lot of buttons the software is now
unusable
