Looks like my original bug-report is not correct. I did some further testing and got the following results. 1) I wrote above that I used patch 26498 but in fact I used 26499 (I just found out that the version displayed ingame is always 26498, no matter if 26498 or 26499 is installed. This is why I reported the worng version.). 2) The crash seems to happen only with 26499. Using 26498 creating characters works fine. I will use patch 26498 for now since there doesn't seem to be a major difference between the two patches. I tried native msvcrt but got exactly the same behaviour, eg. the same parsing error messages.
