This happened to me as well, when using 1.0.9629 and 1.0.9742 nvidia drivers,
on Gentoo AMD64 2006.1. I should tell you that
it only crashed like this when I used -opengl.
I just installed the stable drivers and it worked fine.

Same problem here with ALSA 1.0.13, nvidia nForce3 AC'97 audio, kernel 2.6.18-r2
on Gentoo linux compiled with ALSA and OSS emulation.
Starting winecfg a scratching burst sound comes from the speakers. Same when
selecting the audio tab.
I've tried wine-0.9.22 and 0.9.25. Same problem.
Selecting ALSA, OSS emulation or ESD in alsacfg makes no difference.

This patch might be the reason for the current malfunction:
kernel32: Better workaround for the lack of locale environment variables on MacOS.
Alexandre Julliard [Tue, 7 Nov 2006 17:24:15 +0000 (18:24 +0100)]
That patch is the only patch having changed /dlls/kernel32/process.c at the time
the problem arose, by removing the locale.h from its #includes. That could have
caused something necessary (localisation altogether?) to have been left out.
In the debug log I get there are two errors, and they both concern
/dlls/kernel32/process.c. The first one only breaks, but can be continued. The
second one hangs the test permanently.

Wrong dupe. This is actually the threads problem. You need to build wine using
NPTL/TLS now.

The timeout is part of the behavior. The timeout DOES happen, but before it
wasn't woken up using the winsock select. The summary is correct.

As said, part of the problem might have been fixed by some of the
recent winsock/fd patches commited. Please retry with the wine from git.
Also happens to Frozen Throne.
